Have you ever seen a check-swing on a pitch in the dirt in the outer rear quadrant of the opposing batter’s box?
Dude throws some serious gas (plus a slider and changeup) and hitters have no choice but to go up there hacking.

Walt and Duman had some info on him in the MLB draft thread (Bus ride).
Last night’s FLA@GA game is tied at 4 going to the 9th. FLA gets a two-run homer to take the lead and heads out to the field understandably giddy. I don’t remember exactly what transpired (there may have been a HBP in there), but they find themselves with two out, runners on first and second, and still leading by two. Then came the single to left to cut the lead to one. Then came the double into the LF corner to win it. Ouch.
Getting only 26 outs is painful. Ask someone who knows.
“Check swing? Nope.”

Argh.
#1 Tennessee swept archrival #9 Vandy this weekend by a combined 16-4 score. 27-1 and 19 wins in a row since that loss to the Horns. First SEC team in 28 years to open conference play 9-0.
Horns come back from a 7-1 deficit to win 12-8 and take the series (2-1) from the Sooners.
You’ve gotta be shitting me, I turned it off and started doing other stuff.
I did also, and heard Campbell hit a 3 run shot, making it 7-4 and I switched back and saw the end. Stehle (sp) bailed out Melendez who K’d with tying runs on in the 7th with 2 on. Stehle hit a 3 run shot to tie it. Melendez had a big hit (first of the series for him) to push across the go-ahead run in the 9th after a two-base error by OU, and Austin Todd had a huge 2 strike hit to get insurance. The pen gave up a run in the 9th, but held on for the victory.
Melendez had been an automatic out in this series. Glad he revived with a hit.
New D1 rankings out this AM.
Texas Tech move up to #4 from #7 on the strength of a 4-1 week. I’m certainly a Tech fan but I don’t think the Red Raiders rate this ranking; at least, not until they find a solid Sunday starter.
Texas nudged up to #7 from #8, Oklahoma State stayed at #6 and TCU took a tumble from #12 to #23 based on a rough 1-4 week.
Other notables: SWTSU errrr Texas State jumped from #20 to #10. Tennessee and Arkansas stay at #1 and #2 respectively and Miami jumped to #8 from #17.
Start the damn game already.

#1 Tennessee swept Missouri this weekend. Now 31-1 on the season, 23 wins in a row and first SEC team ever to open conference play 12-0.
Auburn baseball just took 2 of 3 from Vandy. This brings their season record to 22-10 and 7-5 in the SEC. This from a team picked to finish next to last in the West and 13th in the SEC overall in preseason coaches voting.
The big reason is a 6’1" 263 LB 1st baseman who transferred from Samford. Sonny DiChiara was hitting .443 with an .1481 OPS with 9 homers and 12 doubles. His has 30 BB to 15 strike outs.
Today he went 3 for 5 with a double and 2 HR. 5 RBI
Here is his first HR today
Man, he is tubby.
Yep, he is. A man made for the universal DH.
Reminds me of the old professional softball league they used to show on tv back in the day.
Looks like the guy who played Jeremy Brown at the end of Moneyball.
Texas State, which entered the top 10 at the beginning of the week for the first time in its history, had a tough week. Lost in College Station to the Aggies on Tuesday and then lost a series at home this weekend to SBC opponent Georgia Southern.
