College Baseball 2022

Another hot team is #8 Miami. The Canes swept #3 UVA this weekend to extend their winning streak to 13 games and are now 13-2 in conference and 26-6 overall.

Texas takes 2 of 3 at home from the frogs

Texas Tech lost two games against a pretty good Grand Canyon team, but Tech’s mid-week pitching issues were on display. They swept Kansa State at home including a Jung walk off dinger today.

Former Houston Astro Andy Stankiewicz has quietly built GCU into a very good program. After the UofA, they’re arguably the second best program in Arizona right now, which is saying something considering tempe normal (a.k.a. “the school to the north”) is one of the blue bloods of college baseball. I truly hate typing that last part.

You should strive to never give tempe normal school anything positive.

Miami moves to #2 behind Tennessee in the new weekly Top 25 rankings.

Tech, OSU and the Horns at #4, #5 and #7 respectively.

The ACC has 4 teams in the top ten. Besides Miami, UVA/Louisville/Notre Dame are 8-10.

DBU up to #16. Texas State drops to #19.

Auburn moves in to the Top 25 at #17 while weekend foe Vandy drops out completely.

Cool little blurb about the BIL

So that makes three future D1 head coaches on that 1995 Rice squad: Cruz, Hallmark and Berkman.

Yep. And five future big leaguers on that squad too: Cruz, Berkman, Matt Anderson, Mark Quinn, and Kevin Joseph. It was a helluva season, their first of 20 straight NCAA tournament appearances.

Texas Tech was swept by TCU. It is the first time in eight years Tech has suffered a Big XII sweep. The Raiders bullpen and mid-week starting has been suspect all year but now their once mighty offense has all but vanished. I expect them to fall from the Top 10 and TCU to re-join the Top 25.

What really matters not at all is Top 10, Top 25, or any other ranking. All that matters is how the team is playing and fixes the stuff which appears broken. UT has been circling the drain for some time, and teams like yours and mine can still be ok if they somehow can make a regional.

This is an apt description of where the UofA is at the moment. They’re really scuffling right now. The hitting and pitching have both been inconsistent this season, especially of late, and the fielding has been maddeningly mediocre all season.

You can point to the young arms they’ve had to use and injuries to several key starters, but the team is what it is right now - what once seemed like a lock to host a regional now looks far more likely to be a #3 or #4 seed. That said, there’s still a lot of baseball left and hopefully they fix what’s wrong.

Routine 5-2-3-2 triple play:

BA dropped Texas from 8 to 20 in this weeks rankings.

Texas Tech won both ends of a double-header yesterday against West Virginia with Andrew Morris and Brandon Birdsell both pitching complete games. It was Tech’s first complete game in years and is indicative of not only a superb outing by both of these pitchers, but of Tadlock’s lack of confidence in his bullpen.

UT with a total meltdown in the 7th inning. They come into the top of the 7th leading Okie State 7-0. They’ve now managed to record an out, but they’ve given up 8 runs.

Is there a limit to the size of the active roster for a college game? I see that there’s a 40-man limit for the program, but I don’t know what limits might apply to a single game.

They’re not even going to host a regional.
