Cole and FA

How much could Cole get paid per start?
How’s 1.09 MM sound?

I suppose they’re averaging these per inning, per strikeout numbers…

Cole is lost to me. The only reason I care about these outrageous dollar/time ratios is if it negatively affects the Yankmees. Fucking Greedy Bastard.

Cole can stack all his money on a bed and go fuck himself. Admittedly, that would take a very huge bed. Hope we can get Castillo.

Outstanding take here:

you know what happened when Sampson got his hair cut

Predictable that Cole would get backlash from the faithful here.

Predictable and fun.

Fuck him and the Yankees. I hope they make each other miserable.

Frankly, I wish that the MLB did something to keep negotiations from going as they currently do with human foreskins like Scott Boras.

The media gobbles up every little bullshit lie he tells and RUNS (or moves as fast as their Hoveround will take them in Gammons’ case) to trumpet it everyone and quickly (and falsely) drive up the price.

Then the Yankees roll in and bukkake (if you don’t already know what this is, DO NOT GOOGLE IT) cash all over said player and smirk because they’re the best and they won.

It’s fucking idiotic.

It is fucking idiotic, and fuck Cole and his Yankees. I guess he had enough money to get a shave and haircut.

Cole will have to constantly console himself with the knowledge he just made nearly $10,000.00 after each passed ball that gets away from Sanchez.

On that note, this would be an aggravating little postscript:

The Yankees have interest in C Martin Maldonado, per source. Interesting stats to consider: Maldonado caught Gerrit Cole 10 times in 2019 - and Cole had a 1.57 ERA and .471 opponent OPS in those starts, his lowest numbers with any of Houston's catchers last season.

And the Yankees will still push behind the scenes to inflict punishment for the pitch garbage can scandal, even after a Kevin Durant-scale fa acquisition by the chief league rival

Just popping in here to say that this will spectacularly blow up in the Yankees face. Maybe not next year or the year thereafter. But it will.

Over/under for an ERA increase for him this year? I put it at +1.00

The annual salary isn’t ridiculous, but the length of the contract is. Cole will be 37 in the final year. Verlander will be 37 next season, and Grienke will be 36 next season, and they will only make a bit less than Cole. But based on their histories, it’s reasonable to assume they’ll perform at or near their established levels, with some decline due to age as well as increased probability of injury. Maybe Cole excels that long, but it’s far from a given.

The Yankees couldn’t care less about the luxury tax. Since 2003, the Yankees have paid almost $350 million in luxury tax. It simply doesn’t matter to them. As someone else pointed out, it pinches less wealthy teams that approach the luxury tax, but it doesn’t make the Yankees blink.

Tell you what else it does, I think. Those more ordinary free agents are not going to be too happy about the megastars (Cole, Strasburg, Rendon) getting all of the money. Maybe I am wrong.

Are we trying to resign Harris? Are we talking to Madbum? From where might another top of the rotation pitcher come?

ETA: fuck the Yankees. They cannot beat us so they say we cheated and money whip our big ego star pitcher. Fuck them and him.

I know one cocky 3B who is probably not happy he signed an extension prior to the past season.

Why? Bregman is 25 to Rendon’s 29. Who got paid first and who will get paid last?

Bregman’s pretty smart, he knew what he was doing when he did it.

Totally agree, BG. Bregman ain’t worried or pissed at all.

I doubt the Astros are in the Madison Bumgarner sweepstakes. From what I’ve read, he has at least one 100 million offer on the table and is seeking at least 20 million dollars a season for four or five years.

There were rumors on Twitter that the Astros and Reds were discussing swapping Carlos Correa and Josh Reddick for Luis Castillo, but nothing came of it.

The real question is: do you boo Cole when he plays at MMP again? This one doesn’t hurt nearly as much as Beltran, but the greed (and Boras) part is familiar.

I think you treat him like any other player and ignore him.
