I had no idea he was doing that. Very disappointing.

But … but … but …

Fortune favors the brave! We know that, don’t we?

“And combined with an RBI-double in the eighth inning, Naylor became the first player with at least eight RBI from the eighth inning on since the RBI became an official statistic in 1920…”

I was watching that game, but turned if off after the 8th because it appeared to be pretty uneventful. I should have known better. I DO know better. Serves me right.

The Hanwha Eagles of the Korean Baseball League have added a new homerun celebration to their stadium this year. Your move Astros.

Tie game, top 6, bases loaded, 3-2 pitch (McQ on the bump):

That’s pretty bad.

Nothing that the Braves wouldn’t have expected as a matter of right.

It’s also one of the few things the entire dugout can see clearly from a balls/strikes standpoint.

They must have erupted.

This speaks to a point that Blum brought up the other night when asked about roboumps. The plate is 17 inches deep. The catcher sets up well behind that, depending on where the batter is in the box. There are at least 3-4 feet from the point at which the ball crosses the plate and where the catcher catches it. The ball is is going to move down a lot in that space, especially with a pitcher who has a lot of downward movement. He specifically mentioned McHugh. Blummer said something like “you’d see a lot of pitches that nip the bottom of the zone, but are caught well below it, maybe even in the dirt, that are called strikes. It will offend your eyes, and it will lead to a lot of ejections.”

One of my pet peeves on sliders: many are called balls I think because they are caught outside the zone, but they catch plenty of the plate on their way to that spot.

"5/15/84

Joaquin Andujar, who entered the season with a 51% strikeout percentage and three homers, hits a grand slam off Jeff Dedmon as part of a six-run 8th inning and the Cardinals beat Atlanta 9 – 1."

From the great site 80’s Baseball.

It seems while on deck he pointed to the fences a la the Babe and told his teammates he was going to hit a homer according to this account.

Never forget.

They should just install a urinal at his grave.

What model of urinal would you like, sir? The Selig is our biggest seller, but the Adams has many additional features, all subsidized by tax revenue. Or perhaps you’d really like to make a mark with a gold plated Trump model?

By urinal, I assume you mean a piss trough from the men’s room in one of the cantinas on the Mexican border where my friends and I drank extremely low quality Tequila in high school?

Could one shit on the Selig model?
