I’m having fun with this team after a couple years of indifferent engagement. I very much enjoy watching Paredes play and Smith figure it out and I have always had an inexplicable love for Lamont Wade Jr. and I like Trammel. The biggest change for me is the patience at the plate and the long at bats.

This thread made me look at the stats as well. The astros have 25 blowout losses (more than 5 runs). That is 36% of the total losses.
7 of those were in April. 6 were in May, with the last being May 17th. Since then 5 in June, 3 in July, and 4 in April.
Blowout wins are also heavily slanted towards the start of the year with 5 of the 13 coming in March and April. The 3 in May, 2 in June, 2 in July and 1 in August.

I still hold out hope for Smith. He can be an excellent hitter when he wants. When he’s staying on the ball and driving it the other way he can be elite. He can hit the bottom half of the ball and drive it and he can be quick and turn on an inside pitch. He just needs to not try to pull everything. He has the tools.

Smith reminds me of Bagwell a bit. Bagwell was the best righty I ever saw at turning on a pitch and hitting it out in front of the plate instead of getting jammed. Going inside on Bagwell was a recipe for disaster if you were a pitcher.

Yeesh, Doug Eddings is an asshole. It takes a lot for me to take Oli Marmol’s side in an argument and he managed to pull it off. Not sure what basis Eddings think he has to enforce a uniform rule he acknowledges doesn’t exist.
Well it is about time. Now the shitty balls and strikes problem has been sorted, umps can focus on the real issues.

Yeah, those videos and rants don’t tell the whole story. The Rockies were complaining about it being distracting. The rules say you can’t wear things that are distracting to the hitter. Endings simply asked him to straighten it up a bit. Everyone laughed and the pitcher obliged. It was nothing until the pitcher gave up a few hits and a challenge went against the Cardinals. During a pitching change, Marmol went out to argue. The hat thing was just Marmol bitching about the challenge. He refused to stop and it delayed the start of the next hitter. Marmol then argued about being called for a timer violation while he was out arguing during the pitching change. That was the ejection. It had nothing to do with the hat, though Marmol certainly wanted to frame it that way.

And the umpires can ask them to keep it in their jersey or remove it if the batters complained. But I guess you think that would be a hanging offense too.
It’s ok because nobody complains about it, just like a turn’t cap, until that moment.
I’d sure make a rule against the jewelry. Just like with glove colors and such.
