Rosenthal says the Astros are in on Kyle Stowers from the Marlins. Not yet eligible for arbitration, has played mostly 1b for the Marlins this year but was an average outfielder prior to that. Similar numbers against righties to Burleson but a “don’t ever, EVER let him face a lefty” split.

The Red Sox and O’s have a deal arranged for Adley Rutschman. Prospects, medicals set. Red Sox just need to say yay or nay. – Buster Olney on twitter

Rutschman fell off hard after looking like a future star when he first made the big leagues. Injuries haven’t helped, either.

Both Luhnow and Hinch promised Crane they would see that it stopped, and then looked the other way when it didn’t.

The Orioles are pretty high on Samuel Basallo, as they should be. But Rutschman really hasn’t taken a step forward in his development.

Passan says Rutschman to Boston is done.

Cubs are getting Reid Detmers from LAA.

Idle thought: I wonder if the Astros would be interested in re-acquiring Kikuchi amid LAA’s sell-off. He’s been on the IL but just threw a rehab start.

Conflicting reports but some are saying that Detmers has not been traded yet

Yep, looks like no deal there. Cubs just acquired Braxton Garrett, who’d been toiling away in AAA for Miami almost all year for some reason.

Other deals:

  • Luke Weaver to Pittsburgh (from NYM)
  • Dustin May & Jojo Romero to Milwaukee (from STL)

Robbie Ray to the Padres. Giants are getting Miguel Mendez and Joniel Hernandez.

Mendez is a 23 year RHP in AA (really good FB) and Hernandez is 17 year old Dominican signed for $1.4m last year.

Astros acquiring Varsho from the Jays

For Spaghetti, allegedly.

I like this much better than giving up Abreu for Larnach. Arrighetti is more replaceable.

And let me be the first to say (to him as an Astro)…

Varsho, Varsho, Varsho!

That dude is 29 and has played everywhere at every level but finally made it to MLB. Good for him but fuck the Mets..

He achieved a pretty rare feat, he got praise from Mike Daddino.

Chris Sale, not pitching today, got ejected in the first inning for arguing a balk call from yesterday.

Outstanding. It was a really questionable call with a runner on third, to be fair.
