Baseball Miscellany

This nugget from the article is really impressive:

“Abreu posted a 2.28 ERA in 70 appearances last season and led all major-league relievers with 105 strikeouts. The right-hander has logged at least 70 outings and 100 strikeouts in each of the past three seasons, with a 2.40 ERA in that span. His 220 regular-season outings from 2023-25 ranked second among major-league relievers after Tyler Rogers.”

I worried about that when they pulled him in his second appearance.

This is, without hyperbole, one of the worst calls in the history of organized sports.

The reason we have ABS, the reason these guys will eventually be out of a job replaced by Roboumps is because the umpires continually allow people like Angel Hernandez and Bucknor to degrade their profession to this point. They will have no one to blame but themselves.

That is positively mind-blowing how bad it was.

Oh my goodness that is hilarious.

As the clip unfolded I was wondering how the heck could he … oh here it comes must’ve taken his eye off .. . Oh he made that ruling I better it was close … nope not close, ambiguous or in any way approaching what he said happened.

Somewhere an Angel is smiling.

I watched the clip on mute before I read the article. I was so confused about what the blown call even could have been. It’s totally inexplicable.

Saved here for posterity. It’s laughable. He was not even watching the parts of the play that mattered. He was watching the ball. Literally, the least important thing on the field at that part of the play.

I’m not sure what is more ridiculous. This or Cam’s strikeout at bat. It’s getting pretty bad.

That’s gotta be the worst call in the history of organized baseball. I saw some bad ones playing mexican denial league and those umpires weren’t bad enough to miss this one. Angel stole all the headlines but CB takes the cake for actual worst umpire and the sooner they run him and everyone near his “level” the better. Looking at you Ron Kulpa

Even Fred Brocklander would’ve called Bauers safe. Well, maybe.

Don’t forget Mr. Wolf blowing up the perfect game.

Hard to be a more impactful bad call than “The Call” by Denkinger.

Rough opening week for CB

If he didn’t see it, why in the world would he assume he missed the base? That is such an unlikely thing to happen.

Pretty good video about baseball teams as a business, specifically the BoSox.

Spoiler: private equity

Jose Altuve has already matched his total WAR from last year.
