So you’re saying MLB had an issue, even had some policies on the books to address it, but largely ignored those policies and allowed things to evolve for decades, then picked a time in the middle of a season in progress to enforce said policies threatening multigame suspensions and using Umpires as TSA screeners for players leaving games?
Don’t know if it’s been posted, but episode 18 of Goldstein’s podcast Chin Music has an interview with retired MLB pitcher Jerry Blevins. His takeaway: the MLB ball has always been shit, way different than other balls used throughout the minors, hard to grip and it thereby encourages the use of sticky stuff. He says “fix the baseballs and pitchers won’t need any help and MLB should then outlaw (and enforce) any stick stuff help.”
You’re telling me that MLB fucked something up unnecessarily and then, instead of taking the easiest, cheapest, most sensible approach to solving the problem, they decided to just fuck themselves in the ass with their thumb; all while screaming through tears about the thumb in their ass? No way.
