As long as they win, I don’t really care much about what the uniforms look like.
The spelling and grammar in that picture is just embarrassing. They should hire a grownup to proofread.
They are doing new city connects every 3 years, so we’ll have this one in 25, 26 and 27
I like them
They’re light years better than the blue Space City ones…those are gone now, right?
Yes and yes
Wayyyyyyyy better than the City Connect space pajamas the past 2 yrs.
I finally read the words and I have a question:
Do rockets even have “afterburners”? I thought that was a jet engine thing.
No, they don’t. Rockets are designed to work in a vacuum, so they carry their own on board oxidizer and don’t rely on atmospheric oxygen to generate combustion. An afterburner really wouldn’t do anything for a rocket engine.
On a side note, that’s a helluva nerdy thing to point out, much more-so than a spelling error.
Nice belt.
I think the mission patch would look cool on a hat.
The hat looks like the one that was originally designed for the “Rainbow Gut” uniforms. The team stuck with the orange “Star H” hats because they had a large inventory of them.
Holy shit, I never knew about or had seen that. I think you’re onto something here.
They started selling that hat at the team store a while back, I think. It’s been a big hit. The Fayetteville Woodpeckers adapted it for one of their alternate uniforms, too—I wear mine just about every day.
Lukas wrote an amazing article for ESPN a few years back on the history and evolution of the design of the Rainbow Guts uniforms. Went into a lot of detail about the process and who was involved. One of the more interesting tidbits (for me) was that in the age before personal computing and anything remotely close to what’s available today, the color pattern had to be done manually by laying out individual strips of paper and fabric to create the mock up of what the jersey would look like. If I remember correctly, the designer still had his original mock ups.
Highly recommend reading the article for anyone hasn’t.
I’ll read it in a bit, here’s the link for anyone interested:
Awesome, thanks for posting that. Need to reread it when I have second (in the middle of bottling for my day job).
Thank God.
The baseball team for my high school had the rainbow unis in the early 80s, except with shades of green. Kind of ugly, but I love the Astros version.
Rainbow guts/tequila sunrise, you name it, those Astros unis will always be some of my favorite and are forever uniquely iconic.
Always loved when the Astros would do retro uniform weekends, but they seem to have stopped the past few years which is a travesty.
Just don’t bring back the mud ‘n blood unis/colors.
