“A ball hit by Rosario in Wednesday’s game that was originally ruled a hit has been changed to an error on Peña, which means six fewer earned runs charged to Arrighetti.”
I’ve lived in Singapore for the past 30+ years, permanent resident there (split the last 20 between Singapore and Shanghai). Still loads of good street food for reasonable prices, even if the place has been cleaned up / modernised to some degree.
The next few teams in # of pitch violations are
Dbacks - 22
Nats, Pirates & Brewers (3rd in ERA) all with 20
Mets and Rangers with 19
Braves (2nd in ERA), Padres with 18
Guardians (8th in ERA), with 16
Some of those teams like the Astros (5th in ERA) have solid pitching staffs. Also the Astros had 26 last season which ranged them 12th.
It is not a surprise that Framber is 3rd in the majors with 5. I would rather him give up a ball than not get his mind right and give up a homer.
Greetings from Doha! Halfway there. If there are any that you think I should absolutely not miss, I am all ears. @believin And, is it still cool to drop a business card at a table to “reserve” it at a hawker center while you look around for your food?
Just put a pack of tissues or an umbrella. A business card might be OK, but might be mistaken as an advertisement. Pack of tissue or umbrella is the more local thing.
If you are looking for more street food style options, Chinatown, Little India, and Geylang Serai (traditional Malay options) have that sort of atmosphere. Downtown, you can look at Maxwell Market or Amoy Street. Both are good. Tiong Bahru and Toa Payoh, both just outside of the downtown area, offer excellent options for the way we locals live. A little further to the west, you might like Ghim Moh hawker centre or Clementi. Clementi hawker centre is near the MRT station, so it might be the easier one to get to. There are lots of little shops along the way, but if you get all the way to the hawker centre, you’ll find tons of good eating options at really affordable prices.
Some of the things everyone seems to like are the typical fare like chicken rice, laksa, wanton mee, roti prata, carrot cake (I prefer the white one, but if you like the sticky sweetness of prawn paste, you’ll like the black one), popiah, and bak kut teh. One of my go-to dishes is longtong, though you’ll need to look for it earlier in the day. If you’re looking for a big meal, go for nasi padang, which is a Malay rice stall where you choose your own dishes (Chinese version of the same concept is usually called economic rice, Indian, you can do something similar with briyani).
Also, sorry I’m not in Shanghai now. I’d have been happy to try to meet up if I were in Singapore. Always nice to talk Astros, and I don’t meet as many baseball fans as I’d like over here.
Today I learned that Anthony Gose, outfielder-turned-reliever who was part of JA Happ trade with Philly and later an Astros Rule 5 pick, is still in MLB as part of the Cleveland bullpen. I had no idea.
News: The Minnesota Twins released catcher Derek Bender, their sixth-round pick this year, after he tipped minor league opponents the pitch that was coming during at-bats of a game with playoff implications, sources told me and @kileymcd.
I’m waiting for us to be blamed for tipping off Kamala Harris during the debates. Why didn’t she want her blouse ripped off when she crossed home plate?
