You’re probably right…but if either of them had a clue and covered 1B, they get the out there with no run scored. But yeah, they were probably rolling on the ground laughing at the dumbass with the long mitt.
So what I did not realize about this clusterfuck in Pittsburgh today is that Wilson Contreras, the runner who scored on that boondoggle, reached second after he was picked off of 1B and the Pirates’ first baseman screwed that up too. What a shit inning.
How do you look your teammates in the eye after that?
How do you look your teammates in the eye after that?
In this specific instance said teammates would also be Pittsburgh Pirates so the sting is lessened.
How do you look your teammates in the eye after that?
That’s what the glasses are for, I guess.
One final piece of ignominy…the first baseman should have been called for obstruction after the play at the plate, which would have been an immediate dead ball and Baez awarded 1B instead of 2B. He would therefore not have scored on the next single. The Pirates could not have gathered a team of engineers and science fiction writers and dreamed up a scenario as screwed up as the one they managed to pull off in real time.
Maybe they hit him in the junk.
They should. Repeatedly. With a sock full of rocks.

Jason Varitek is still finding ways for the Red Sox to win - The Boston Globe
Because Varitek has two World Series rings, caught four no-hitters, and was the team’s last captain, his credibility with the players is instantaneous.
So SB success rate is the highest it’s ever been in history at 76.2% thru May 23. Pitchers being slower to the plate, emphasizing pitch framing for catchers over arm strength and fielders being slower to the bag because of shifting have been cited as the reasons.
Stolen Bases Are Declining, But MLB Teams Are More Successful Stealing Than...
Runners are successfully stealing bases at an all-time high pace. But teams are running less than ever. Kyle Glaser examines why.
Which raises even more questions about why Myles Straw has sucked at it so badly this year.

He’s slower than he used to be and gets terrible jumps. Not that complicated.
Braves' Ozuna arrested on felony assault charge
Major League Baseball is expected to open an investigation into Marcell Ozuna, sources told ESPN on Saturday, following his arrest in Georgia on aggravated assault strangulation and misdemeanor battery -- family violence charges.
Uh oh.
It takes a real miscreant to do that, and a stupid one, to do it in front of the police.

That’s about all he needed, except of course, a few runs…
Game Seven in 2019 is when I became a big Greinke fan. I was ambivalent before then. He pitched his ass off in that game and deserved far better. Karma got him, not the Nats.
I’m very glad we acquired him. Whether we keep him all depends on the price, because while he’ll battle his ass off for you like an ace, you don’t get ace numbers from him.
