Baseball Miscellany

I’m delighted to learn that there’s a Twitter account named MLBErrors. Maybe Twitter isn’t completely awful.

Twitter is an accurate reflection of the internet in general and our society.

Mostly garbage but a few gems scattered about.

Knew the story, first time seeing a pic:

Imo, there are no baseball reasons to sign Albert Pujols.

The Dodgers apparently disagree.

Head-scratcher.

Makes zero sense unless they are collecting icons.

It appears that’s exactly what they’re doing. He has no on-field value.

and no DH

Exactly. He’s not going to replace Muncy at 1B, who’s getting on base at a remarkable .439 clip, with a .900+ OPS and leading the team in HRs and second in RBIs. He’s unlikely to pass any significant milestones for the remainder of his career. This is about keeping him from signing with another team (perhaps sticking it to the Cardinals), and maybe making a few marketing bucks.

You guys act like there’s no use for a yard ornament shaped like a baseball player.

The only thing I can think of is that someone with San Diego mentioned in passing they might sign him.

He knows where the bodies are.

When you’re 57 years old, that’s not too surprising.

If I’m the Dodgers, I WANT San Diego to sign him.

Maybe they signed him just for the upcoming series against the Astros.

This makes me smile, as a baseball fan. Watch the video.

This could go in the other thread, but let’s take moment to honor this achievement on the baseball wing of the OWA castle:

This guy addresses a good topic, the number of no hitters recently reflects a problem with today’s game, but he completely whiffs on the root cause.

He contends that pitchers are too good and baseball needs to do something similar to the 1968 mound adjustment.

This is wrong, wrong, wrong. It’s the hitters, not the pitchers.

Deaden the baseball. Dis-incentivize hitting flyballs and reward contact.

It has nothing to do with pitchers being too good and everything to do with batters being told that swinging for the seats and striking out is better than a single thru a completely empty side of the infield.
