The Mets retired Willie Mays’s number. I wonder if we’ll do that for Pudge Rodriguez or Doc Gooden.

As far as I’m concerned, every team should retire Willie Mays’ number.

Interesting. The players play for free and are mostly made up of undrafted collegiate players.

Savannah sounds like a great place. There are good restaurants, redfish, Benedetto Guitars, and the Savannah Bananas.

It’s a great town, highly recommended.

Savannah was a hole back in the day. It’s no Charleston. It may have improved, however.

Not much.

Philistines

Not sure the reference applies. Charleston is night-and-day different. And it is not Charleston that appeals to Philistines.

I like Savannah. I like Charleston. Neither are a ****hole, at least where I was.

Even Mississippi has some nice spots from what I’ve seen.

Tru dat. But Charleston should be in anyone’s top 10.

It’s on my short list of places I’d move to if I ever left Texas

Which may come sooner that I ever imagined.

Back in 1996 I had the choice of moving to Atlanta, Charleston, or Raleigh. I chose Raleigh, and enjoyed living there. In hindsight, I would have chosen Charleston.

I’ve thought about the Asheville or Chattanooga area, but not Raleigh/Durham really, at least since I learned I couldn’t afford to go to Duke. But I got to go there once in Jr High for the TIPS math nerd camp summer.

Durham is a shithole, and don’t call it Raleigh/Durham. They are two VERY different cities. It’s as bad as calling it “Tampa Bay”. The best thing about Durham was playing at the old Durham Athletic Park. That was a cool old minor league yard.

ETA: Asheville can be sorta cool. It’s like a really small Austin.

For anyone visiting Asheville I recommend the Thomas Wolfe house. Of course, he’s my favorite novelist.

My wife and daughter enjoyed their trip to
Savanah a few years ago.

I re-read The Right Stuff a couple years ago and it still holds up.
