This is that Canadian Rules Baseball scoring isn’t it

27-3 now in the 6th.

And all this without Springer.

Duran should have been benched immediately- not for losing it, but for making absolutely no effort once he spotted it.

That sound you hear is Limey furiously taking one for the team.

Best tweet I saw after the Red Sox Slaughter last night -

Worst home loss by an American squad against Canada since 1812 https://t.co/p1iGujW2fZ

Luv it!

BoSox suckitude in July…

  • 5-14 for the month
  • 1-8 over last 9 games
  • 8 games remaining in the month against Blue Jays/Guardians/Brewers
  • Surrendered the most runs in a game in franchise history
  • Largest margin of defeat in 99 years
  • The 55 runs allowed in 3-game stretch was the second most by any team since 1901

The Co-Ards will be without their best two antivaxxers in Toronto:

Hope they get swept and miss the postseason by 1 game

Another Red Sux loss today compounds their July miseries…

  • 5-game losing streak in which they’ve been outscored 67-13
  • 1-9 over last 10 games
  • 5-15 for the month
  • Surrendered the most runs in a game in franchise history
  • Largest margin of defeat for the team in 99 years
  • The 55 runs allowed in 3-game stretch was the second most by any team since 1901
  • Dropped to .500 for the first time since June 5
  • Now just 12-29 this season against AL East teams
  • Have 35 games remaining against AL East teams plus another 15 games against Guardians/Brewers/Astros/Braves/Twins

If Chaim Bloom looks at all that and chooses to sell, JD Martinez and Christian Vazquez would almost certainly be available as rentals.

You have to get all the way to the Angels before you find a team that’s double digits back of the AL wc.

The upshot of course is that every team’s fan base thinks they’ve got a chance.

With the deadline being a hard one you’d risk a PR nightmare to deal assets when you’re 3.5 games out with 2 months to play.

Not saying it can’t happen, but seems unlikely from any team that’s within ICBM range of the wc.

True.

But there are factors pointing Bloom to sell mode…

There are 7 teams contending for the 3 WC spots. The Red Sox (along with the Rays) have the 2nd hardest remaining schedule in all of baseball. The White Sox have the 2nd easiest schedule among all 30 teams while the Mariners have the 6th easiest and the Guardians the 10th easiest.

The Red Sox pitching staff is simply woeful and they would have to make a number of moves there if they expected to stay in the race. And even if they made the playoffs a rejiggered pitching staff is still likely to lag behind other postseason teams.

There’s 11 free agents on the roster. So a major restructuring will occur this offseason. If it starts now Bloom can net some help for future seasons as opposed to…nothing.

There’s plenty of speculation in the Boston media that they will in fact be sellers. And yes they could end up being wrong. Ken Rosenthal said the other day the current homestand will be tipping point one way or another. Well they’re off to an 0-3 start and the 7 remaining games are against the Guardians and Brewers. And with so many players on the IL right now it’s hard to imagine a successful conclusion.
