For all you rules junkies and those who’ve think you e seen everything…
It amazes me that the four guys out there can get this correctly ruled but they have no clue that a ball scraping the dirt is not a strike.
I understand the ruling here, but I also think it was clear the third baseman was appealing the runner from 3B not tagging. That’s what an appeal on a caught line drive almost always looks like…as in I’ve never seen it look like anything else or seen the umpire require the fielder stepping on the base to explain the rule before calling the runner out.
I also think it’s absurd that things like catches by infielders and whether or not a pitched ball hits the bat or not are not reviewable, no matter obviously wrong the call was. But I’m just an old man yelling at clouds.
So if you squint hard you’ll see that tweet was from Doug Gottlieb. The prototypical Fox talk show bellower (not to mention low life who stole a credit card in college and racked up charges on it). Not a reporter. Who Deadspin (yep, still around) refers to as existing “somewhere between Adam Schefter and Skip Bayless in the spectrum of being a useless drivel smokestack”. Maybe the info that was fed to Gottlieb (the speculation is that it came from rival agents) was accurate. Or not. Freddie Freeman declined to comment when asked about the Gottlieb tweet and Casey Close is denying it and says he’s reviewing legal options against Gottlieb.
Freeman fired Close but until he decides to get off the fence and comment publicly it’s probably best to describe this as one asshole (Gottlieb) shoveling shit on another asshole (Close). And why doesn’t Freeman want to comment (at least so far)? Perhaps because he’s not 100% certain what happened and doesn’t want to get sued by Close.
Not sure I’ve seen this happen before
Cabrera skipped the fourth out
“If true” I totally agree with the decertification.

Liver discomfort
How would TJS work on a liver ?
That would be Mickey Mantle surgery
If they could have done that on knees he might have been the best ever.
Even with bad legs, if he would have stayed sober, he would have been.
The top comment on the article referenced a similar play during the 1980 NLCS Astros game (Game #4 w/ the Phillies).
