Also, Boeing:
Why I thought of this I have no idea, but Tim Calhoun (Will Forteās first skit on SNL), candidate for Congress, was bizarrely hilarious.
āWhat America needs is another big lake.ā
The Boeing stories are troubling on so many levels.
āIf it aināt Boeing I aināt goingā no longer applies.
Itās also hampering things for us immensely at SWA.
But hey, the shareholders and Wall Street needed to be appeased at Boeing for yearsā¦
I was hoping you were not the FO on that down to 400ā SWA flight recently.
Or the one from PHX to OAK that went into a Dutch roll and suffered structural damage, but ultimately landed safely.
Question: to get into a Dutch roll, do you use a Dutch rudder?
Iām afraid to even google what a āDutch rudderā is.
Yeah, the Lihue go-around was talked about when I went to recurrent training in May. It was a very grisly situation and Iām relieved the result wasnāt catastrophic. We also had a crew go-around in La Guardia earlier in the year that was a shit show. The need to remain vigilant and have both pilots being dialed in in an ever complex and dynamic modern ATC system/flying environment is more than ever paramount.
I can tell you the FAA is scrutinizing United right now big time and I wouldnāt be surprised if they start looking at us or other airlines to see if training or procedures need to be changed.
Or, double-Dutch rudder.
Yeah, now thereās no way Iām looking that up.
You usually have to pay extra for that action, Cotton.
Sigh. STOP ADDING CONTOL INPUTS!!!. The plane will frickinā correct itself. Unless you are flying a relic.
Not always.
There is talk there was a failed PCU/Power Control Unit. Not sure why the standby rudder control system didnāt kick in, though.
The whole 737 Max issue was that the electronic systems were actively trying to crash the plane and locked out the pilotsā ability to stop it.
I could go on and on about MCAS and those crashes, but we donāt have enough time in the day.
The fight those pilots put up against a machine hell bent on killing them was heroic and heartbreaking. Then Boeing blamed them for the crashes.
Fuck Boeing.
I wasnāt there in the heat of the battle, and without trying to sound holier than thou/pious, I do always have to say there was a lack of basic airmanship in those 2 crashes that might, again, might have given them a better shot.
Thereās a reason one is first taught to āAviate, Navigate, Communicateā in that very order. Fly the plane first, figure things out, then talk.
To follow up on thisā¦both chuck and I googled that later last night. We only have one question for you: What the fuck, Ray?
