Yeah my understanding is that not believing and acting on what the instruments are saying has led to many, many tragedies.
The most dangerous and difficult of all I think is flying in intermittent IFR/VFR conditions in a single seater. It is really hard to stay IFR when you break out even though you know, you will be IFR again soon.
He was a BWI Capt for us. I have several friends who flew with him, said he was a very nice guy.
He’s trying to get his job back, not sure how that’ll pan out.
Will make a Spec’s run later and see what my options are for the Texans game.
Just checked the “History” Channel to see if they were showing something related. Nope, it’s an all-day marathon of Ancient Aliens
The excellent movie is available on YouTube, and probably elsewhere. Absolutely stacked cast, real planes and an epic score.
Here’s the scene depicting this day in the battle. Not “the hardest day”, but chosen as Battle of Britain Day as the day that saw the most metal in the sky.
Great movie. Will probably watch later.
I did just crank the shit out of this:
But these fokkers were Messerschmitts.
Daniel was talking about Spitfires the other day. All his planes arrived yesterday so I’ll honor the occasion by getting him talking about Fokkers, too.
I learned to fly at RAF Manston, which was a front line WW2 base being that it’s literally about 25 miles from France. In my day, pretty much all light aircraft making the Channel crossing came through there because it was the least amount of time spent over the water, with Le Touquet being a popular destination.
By the time I got there, it was used by the USAF to run F-111 ops and the runway was this absolute monster (just look how it dwarfs the town and golf course). The USAF flew in a Boeing 707 once a week with supplies (presumably nylons and Hershey bars).
We’re gonna need you to sign off each post with ‘ack-ack’ today.
In British, it’s “daka daka daka daka”.
Also, I can confirm that The Jolly Farmer in Manston is an excellent pub and is exactly how you imagine it should look.
Do t worry. DOGE is on it.
I’m so fucking glad I’m in training until mid-October and have missed all this nonsense.
Had a couple sets of coworkers get stranded tonight trying to get home to DFW, one in Indianapolis and another in Phoenix. Not a fun night for the AA folks
A buddy of mine is stuck in Minneapolis for the same reason.
