Farther/further is one of my brain gaps. I look at one and say “that doesn’t look right” then change it and say “fuck that doesn’t look right either. Fuck it”
Probably because there’s no meaningful utility in the distinction, tbh. It’s hard to imagine using the “wrong” one ever results in confusion on the part of the reader/listener.
“Farther” relates to physical distance. “Further” describes comparative degree. I learned by remembering that something “far away” means it’s a great distance.
I’m waiting on an update from his son-in-law shortly…apparently he had a stroke while at local hospital and got transferred to Austin. This is not looking good.
Scott and White here at 71/281 is where he went. He (my uncle/cousin, about 82 or so) was dehydrated, but showed signs of a minor stroke. So CAT scan…everything looks ok according to the doctors to they send him back to the assisted living facility in Johnson City. The day nurses the next morning start calling their family saying “something’s not right”. While this is happening, S&W says that the brain scan they gave him the night before was possibly faulty because the machine was not working properly. So he went straight to St David’s in Austin, got a new CAT, there may be a growth or a small stroke in the brain, and now he’s in line for a proper MRI.
His daughter said “he’s much more like himself today”, but he’s just sleeping a lot in between physical therapy sessions. So things are not great but better than totally bad.
This is one of my mom’s 1st cousin’s husbands, who has been basically an uncle all my life. Pretty amazing dude, I’ll have stories someday.
