Well, he is a professional minor league hitter.
Maybe take a couple of days off, rest up a little.
This. This is horrible.
I donât want to hear about roster machinations. If heâs good enough to be playing in Sugar Land, give it a shot as the DH in the big leagues. If his shoulder canât handle it, youâll find out very quickly.
Wouldnât want to over do it.
I just think this team doesnât have it. Top to bottom, the pitching isnât what it has been the last few years and the bats sure as hell arenât. Even if they do get in the postseason, Iâd be shocked if they win a series.
Itâs pretty clear that the pitching sucks balls, so the only hope is hitting your way to success. That means Diaz catching nearly every day, Brantley DHâing, Yordan in LF, and Chas in CF. Thereâs a day off every week until the end, so ride or die with that.
It would also help to score more than a run every three games.
I donât disagree, and Iâd settle for four games from Brantley a week. But, thereâs no reason to continue to waste Brantleyâs remaining bullets in Sugar Land. If it fails, it fails. They need to try him in the 2-hole and add a spark to the offense. If his shoulder doesnât hold up, you at least gave it a shot.
Brantley ainât coming back. And even if he does, he doesnât pitch. This team is what it isâŚmiddle of the pack.
Pitching? Framber no hit these goons. The pitching is fine. They need to score runs and thatâs not going to happen with Bregman hitting second and Maldonado hitting at all.
Itâs as if the team cut off a van of nuns in traffic, and now theyâre cursed.
If Brantley isnât coming back, he has no business taking at-bats for the Space Cowboys over the span of a week.
Iâm not sitting in that clubhouse, so I canât make statements of fact⌠but my theory is that this team is completely shot mentally.
Any major league season is a grind, but this year, with all these injuries and bad breaks, is next level. Getting hurt, rehab after being hurt, playing through injuries. Trying to play hero ball every day to carry teammates who are unavailable or underachieving. And the result is incredibly sloppy play, mental lapses, pressing and panicking in clutch situations. People donât always think clearly and make good decisions under stress. (Yes, professional athletes are very tough mentally, but this year may be beyond their normal experience).
Iâm also wondering how many people are playing hurt right now when they normally wouldnât because of all the players already out and the worsening position in the standings. I have questions about Yordan and his new warning track power (maybe the rocket he hit tonight for an out is a good sign). But the obvious case in point is Urquidy. Heâs just not ready. He was bad in rehab starts and bad now that heâs back with the team. But what else are you going to do, who else is there, itâs all hands on deck now, etcâŚ
This whole vibe just feels like panic.
Yeah, the bullpen really nailed this one down.
You mean Pressly.
They should have scored some runs to make it a non issue. The pen has been great. Pressly was dogshit tonight. France has been great. He was dogshit yesterday. When he left it was 5-0 in, what, the 2nd? Thatâs a winnable game. They bring in Bielak. Whoever is making these decisions doesnât seem to understand the urgency of all of this.
I know Iâm going to rant and rave about this team to no end in the next month⌠but right now, props to these guys. Theyâve been a mess in every phase of the game almost from the start, but they kept pulling off amazing stunts and somehow finding wins day after day. It is staggering that they were that far above .500 and in strong contention until late August. But 4+ months of absolutely heroic effort apparently comes at a price, because theyâre just unraveling nowâŚ
The pitching was dog shit against Seattle. It was dog shit for a good part against Boston. Brown was dog shit last time out. Graveman was dog shit last time out. France was dog shit last time out. Bielak was dog shit last time out. Framber was dog shit last two times before tonight. Pressly was dog shit tonight. So no, I donât think agree everything is currently hunky dory with the pitching. The starters have not been good and the pen is fucking gassed.
But the offense may be somehow worseâŚ
