Outstanding!
Hope we take good care of you, HH. Lord knows we’ve been stomping on our peckers of late at Southwestern Airtrails.

In Honolulu, near Waikiki, there is a superb hole in the wall Vietnamese place I usually hit up called Pho Minh Thu- the owner is incredibly nice. It’s next to a good breakfast spot called Aloha Kitchen. Goofy Cafe is another great breakfast spot.
Gangnam Style in Waikiki has great Korean, Waikiki Brewing Company has a great happy hour and menu, Duke’s, while a tourist trap, has a great mai-tai and happy hour, the bar above it, Hula Grill, is good, Suzie Wong’s Hideaway is a great dive bar, Harbor Pub is good (near the harbor), Arnold’s is another good dive bar, Paia Fish Market has a great happy hour and menu and if I can think of some others, I’ll pass them along.

Sweet! Thanks

He gets a bad rap in some circles, but Guy Fieri has never steered me wrong on the 7 or so spots in various places recommended on his show. He covers Hawaii extensively and the show’s website is a good source to find cool little dining options.

We hiked a trail called Calico Tanks in Red Rock Canyon just outside of Las Vegas. It’s a relatively easy out and back trail with gorgeous views of the canyon and a pretty cool vista view of the whole of Vegas. A triple-digit day might not make it as easy or pleasant but it was very beautiful. The drive there is only 30-40 minutes.

I hope Chuck and fam are around for your visit. They hosted us at an amazing Japanese place the like of which I’ve never experienced before. So, so good.

Guy is a genuinely good guy and has done a ton of good work with his fame.

And his recommendations are spot on. Mac and Ernie’s is a little roadside place out by Vanderpool that he highlighted and it was outstanding.

Thanks Ty!

The fundraising he did for the industry during pandemic shutdowns was amazing (Chris Shepherd and the Southern Smoke Foundation out of Houston too, and others), add to that the sheer amount of free advertising he’s given 1000+ small businesses, and add to that the actual culinary tips and recommendations he gives off camera (he and the crew try most of the menu and he’s happy to say “eh, maybe try this or that instead”)…by all accounts he’s just an awesome guy who is unapologetic about who he is.

Even the NYT, whose review of his Times Square restaurant a decade or so ago was brutal and hilarious, has changed their tune on him.

Also, I find it endearing and weird that he cannot stomach eating eggs in any preparation. But I’m like that with most pickles so I guess I relate.

And you’re not wrong about Mac and Ernie’s.

Also, HH, the Oahu Mexican Grill is a favorite as well- decent upstairs patio overlooking part of Waikiki, a sort of Chipotle/Taco Cabana thing going on- i.e. the burritos are redonk as the kids and their rock ‘n roll music say, and their frozen margaritas are solid.
And they have cold beer.

Even tsukemono?

Oh, I like all kinds of pickled things, and I make pickled cucumbers and various other stuff every year, I just don’t like the common “dill pickle”
