Answer: because he is playing every day.
You are relying on Bregman’s numbers from the past, kinda like Dusty does with opposing hitters. Diaz is performing better right now than Bregman was this year. I’d like Bregman to be his MVP version too, but I doubt that will happen in 2021.
Diaz can still be an “everyday” player, just not always at the same position. Marwin routinely played 130+ games. Diaz can be that kind of player, as he can play all over the field.
Agree he does not have to be at 3rd exclusively, but Bregman has to show he is healthy and productive.
