I agree RE: shutdown, but they could have simply given France one more day of rest instead correct? Iāve seen teams do that a lot over the past few years with pitchers that were definitely going to roll past their previous IPād limits. You donāt shut them down but you find a spot here or there in the schedule when you can find them that extra day of rest.
France isnāt the only guy in the rotation. And thereās 21 games left. They are not going to re-arrange the rotation the last three weeks, fighting for first place. France is fine. Heās not been overworked.
With the innings jump for France (and others) youād expect some fatigue, but if their performance, velo etc, holds up, no need to get them any extra rest. The innings alone arenāt determinative. When someoneās clearly gassed like Javier, thatās when you have to adjust.
TY @BillyD, I was wondering about 6-man rotation for the 21 games - if the hitters say HOT & Tucker gets an RBIā¦
@HudsonHawk@moriarty Understand that the Astrosā tenure on 1st place is just a handful of days old and itās far from secure, but it seems like Dusty prefers the long view (āturn the pageā after the Yanksā sweep!) rather than short view.
How did the longer rotation affect the performance of the other starters?
Part of the Ranger sweep appears to have been desperation moves to āhang onā to 1st. Now the trying to hang on to a WC slot. It happensā¦
France got bumped back a little because it coincided with the acquisition of Verlander and the return of Urquidy. He got skipped in the rotation to reset it with those guys, but came in out of the pen because a) they needed an arm and b) it gave a France some innings to keep him sharp and in some sort of a rhythm. Iām not sure why people are insisting that France is overworked on on the verge of devastation. Heās not. The Astros are not worried that he is and heās not going to be shut down because āheās a rookie and heās never thrown this many pitches beforeā. Thatās ludicrous.
He came in relief because heād been temporarily bumped from the rotation due to resetting on the acquisition of Verlander and the return of Urquidy, not because they were worried heās thrown too many pitches.
Last night as the Padres broadcasters discussed Baker ācontinuing to pitch Brown so he could find Brown,ā they used āfadeā to describe what was happening to him exceeding his previous high in pitch countā¦
Yeah, thereās been a decline since May with one good month in June. I donāt think thatās fatigue, I think thatās the league learning him and him not adjusting.
His lack of command has been a season-long problem. Some days people really take advantage of it, some days not quite as much. Thereās been a pretty high variance in his results, but not really in his performance.
