They… didn’t fuck it up.

But the Mariners definitely did. Tied 1-1 after 9, Yankees push across their Manfred man on a lead off double by Rizzo in the top of the 10th. Mariners come to bat in the bottom of the 10th with JRod as their Manfred man. Cal Raleigh lead off single to left doesn’t score Julio, but it’s 1st and 3rd, no out. Arozarena at the plate, loses his bat swinging at strike 3 and the bat goes flying down the 3rd base line. JRod dodges the bat, but WANDERS TOO FAR OFF 3rd and is easily picked off the bag by Yankees catcher. 2 out on an incredibly boneheaded play. Turner strikes out to end the game. Yankees win 2-1.

The night before that, Mariners loaded the bases in the 1st inning on a HBP and 2 BB and Robles was caught stealing home for the 3rd out - with Turner at the plate and a 3-0 count! Mariners went on to lose that game 11-2.

Sometimes I wonder how the Astros, with so many flaws, could win the division.

Then I see things like this.

It’s too bad Servais wasn’t there to see that.

Or explain it.

Last night was not one of those games that keep me up at night (that’s mainly Mrs Hawk needing it 40 fucking degrees in the house all the time). Cease was really, really good. It happens. Go out and win today.

Yeah, it was pretty clear that Cease owned them last night, and nothing good was going to happen while he was in. That’s the way it goes.

I knew early it was probably going to be a homer that one that game.

I was listening to the postgame show on the radio, and some yahoo called in and decried the hitters as “lazy” because they don’t always work the count in every at bat. He made the astute observation that when they work counts and get into middle relief, the Astros are more successful. He didn’t realize that he was making the less astute observation that when a really good pitcher is pounding the strikezone, the Astros aren’t quite as successful as when a middling pitcher can’t find the strikezone.
