I was in a mediation in Newport Beach on Monday. My “walk away threat” was that I’m about 80 miles from Petco Park so if things aren’t going well I’ve got other things to do. The local mediator told me I’d never make it before the fourth inning.

My company had a trial in Orange County a couple years back, I went along to oversee outside counsel. Jury didn’t come back with a verdict the first day, so with nothing else to do that evening, lead trial counsel took us to Disneyland.
(Have I mentioned how great it is to be in-house?)

As I was walking to my meeting downtown, there were a bunch of Padres fans walking to the game. I started chatting them up, and when they found that I was an Astros fan, they started asking me about the team. I told them that if they were a true fan of baseball that they should watch Valdez tonight. Classic and very good down, down, down pitcher. They got pretty excited about seeing him.
