If Yuli is hurt, then there it is. Say he’s hurt, and was not available last night. But if you sat him because you’re afraid of injury, then you’re just throwing in the towel. Your 3-7 guys struck out 10 times and had 20 LOB.
No problem keeping Yuli on the bench.
Dusty says ‘sore’ but the trainer likely has a much more specific term.
Put the ball in play with runner on 3rd/less than 2 outs.
Yuli, 36, apparently had played in every game until last night - all 25 - perhaps, including some PH appearances along the way.
Most of us need to unstring the bow at times in order to make the long haul…
What long haul? It’s a 60-game season and it’s nut cutting time. Plus he plays 1B. It’s not like he’s a catcher or SS. If he can’t play 25 games at 1B he needs to find another line of work.
Look, if he’s hurt, ok, I get it. But his team needed him last night, so unless there was a bone showing, there aren’t any excuses.
The issue was not defense; the issue was running hard after hitting the ball.
Given: He is a geezer, maybe a little road weary. How many more years does he have left? How much longer will recovery time take w/ the next injury?
We are seeing the rookies in the BP that struggled mightily early on are beginning to find their feet. Who knows how long Bregman will be out; Jones certainly will need time - like Tucker - to start contributing, and this failed AB (hopefully) could be part of that learning experience.
The 2020 “championship” would be enjoyed - I am pulling for it - but it also will have an asterisk on it. Part of the focus has to be on what’s left for 2021 w/o Reddick, Bradley and who knows who else gone. Again, the long haul (beyond this season).
I understand that. I’m just pointing out that he doesn’t play a particularly demanding defensive position that wears down your body dramatically.
Again, if he’s hurt, it is what it is. I’m saying I disagree with not having him DH or pinch hit last night out of fear of him getting hurt, when you’re already significantly short handed. He could also pull something tonight, or tomorrow night, or next Thursday night. At what point, minus an existing injury, do you overcome that fear and let him play?
Absolutely, 36-yr-old wheels. I can’t remember when my wheels were 36, but his may be barking at him at times.
PS: Have we forgotten the old mantra: “Trust Luhnow”? Now is it “Trust, Dusty”?
If your suggesting sacrificing his season because you don’t find he same value in it, ok. I think that’s whack, but ok. Then say you’re just gonna mail this season in and plan for next.
Nope, not giving up, but rather making sure the vets - even the geezers - are at their best by the playoffs (that appear to be another short season).
You need to worry first about making the postseason. It’s not like the Astros have an 8-game lead.
After the start they had, they are doing great to be 2 games out at this point, w/ a 4.5 game lead on the beloved Rangers…
They’re 3.5 out. And winning the division is huge to ensure you don’t have to play every postseason game on the road.
Correction noted. Again, who would have thunk we would have been concerned about home field advantage during the playoffs w/ so many rookies playing.
Look, you want to bag this season and start rebuilding. I don’t.
What I am enjoying is seeing all the Round Rock guys celebrating Tucker’s success, along with others ( like Toro’s 3-run HR). We are seeing guys play that I have never heard of before. I am excited about them getting their chance.
Let’s see if Jones contributes along the way. If so, then maybe that failed AB may have helped in the long run.
I’m not concerned about celebrating rookies getting an opportunity. Spent way too many years doing that. I’m concerned about the Astros not blowing the remaining year or two on that window they built by making me suffer through those years of celebrating the young guys getting an opportunity.
Please do not copy Snuffy’s inane drivel. I am trying to ignore his existence.
Fair enough. It’s over. Today is another day. Gotta go start another win streak tonight.
I resemble that. I suffered through the same seasons - all of them,…
So I know whereof you speak.
