I wonder how many expected Maldonado to catch at all today, much less the whole game after that brutal collision. Impressive that he could move, much less run and swing a bat less that 48 hours earlier. Kudos to him and the training staff!
How did Hicks get an RBI with that play? Could it be said that the run scored b/c of defensive “indifference” - not RBI worthy?
How much do shift-heavy teams practice rundowns w/ 3b and possibly Home occasionally uncovered?
Idk what else you can rule it. Hicks singled that isn’t a question. No error was made on a throw, nobody misplayed the ball, so no error can be “awarded”. It has to be an rbi single, perhaps the luckiest in history
Jim, there is no disputing you know a lot about baseball. I’ve mentioned before how impressive your list of accomplishments is, both on and off the field. I wasn’t asking you to go fuck yourself because I question your baseball acumen. I did it because I thought your had a shitty response. I too had expected better. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
On replay, I’m 50/50. He got leather on it, and overall it shouldn’t have been an incredibly difficult stop, but the fact he was there was still a pretty remarkable play.
Loved that home by Altuve yesterday. I know he would never do it because of type of player/person he is, but it would have been gold if he would have stripped his shirt off as he approached and step on home plate shirtless.
One of the Yankee broadcasters mused to himself, “I guess Hicks will get an RBI from this…”
It was a teachable moment (at least for me), but he never explained WHY he got an RBI - by “getting the ball rolling” that resulted in a RS.
BTW another teachable moment came from Cole immediately as his pitch screamed from Jordan’s bat with his 2nd HR swing. The sparse crowd was silenced and his curse was clear & guttural…
Didn’t know and the home town radio announcer wondered about it, rather than explaining why Hicks would get an RBI. It felt like defensive indifference tho it was really a collective brain fart.
