Astros @ Mariners, April 15, 2022

I’m not saying that Odorizzi should be long for this rotation. What I am saying is that tonight it really wouldn’t matter who the Astros started if the offense is only going to score 1 run. They are asking every pitcher to be perfect, and that’s not a reasonable expectation.

Of the problems plaguing the Astros right now, the offense is by far the biggest.

There is plenty of blame to go around.

Several players have had a bad and disappointing start.

Hey, at least they found a good role for Baez out of the pen.

By far Click’s worst move.

I agree with you that overall the pitching has been much better than the offense.

My point is that Odorizzi has shown over and over without any doubts that he is not one of the 5 best starters on this team

Yet the team chose to skip Verlander eventhough he is already on extra rest and Urquidy who is on regular rest.

And chose to put Javier in the bullpen so he can start.

And they keep treating him like a #2 starter.

Click just needs to admit his mistake on Baez and designate him for assignment. His velocity isn’t coming back, and he doesn’t have impeccable command to compensate for it.

Dude, you realize Verlander has made one start in over 2 years, just came back from Tommy John and it’s a 162 game season? They are not going to start skipping starts in April, especially after the short spring

Verlander pitched Saturday, Urquidy on Sunday, and Garcia on Tuesday. It was either roll with Odorizzi tonight, or make the move to Javier after one start. The latter was not going to happen. Also, as doyce said, they are watching Verlander’s innings early in the year since he hasn’t pitched in nearly two full seasons so he can be strong down the stretch. That and the shortened Spring Training.

If you want to be frustrated that they had Odorizzi start the second game of the season, I get it. But, it’s an issue that will resolve itself soon, either with Javier taking his job, McCullers returning or skipping Odorizzi with an upcoming off day.

I realize this.

And I think being cautious with Verlander is the move.

But so far this year including spring training Verlander pitched on 5 days rest, 4 days, 5 days and now needs 6?

From everything I’ve read they’re going to a 6-man rotation for the 30+ games with 1 day off stretch that starts in a week or so, and Javier is that 6th man. Stros have always said that they view him as a starter, so here’s his shot to show it. I would imagine that his usage so far is part of that plan.

Baez getting DFA’d is inevitable once the rosters shrink at the end of April, if not sooner.

And I think skipping Verlander is smart.

This game is not nearly important enough to rusk his health.

If they think the extra day is the right thing. Bravo.

My comments were not really about Verlander.

It just turned that way because he was on 5 days rest and next up for a start.

Verlander started the game he did last week so that he could get 6 days, but they all need more work to be at full strength. Did you watch Valdez? Their bodies are still in spring training mode. You can’t win the division in April, it’s a long season

I concede this point

I’m looking forward to Javier getting another chance to start as part of this planned 6-man rotation for a long stretch of games without an off day. I think he’s better in the rotation.

As far as Baez is concerned, I wouldn’t wait until the end of April if I’m Click. He’s not turning it around.

Didn’t they also say Verlander was dealing with the stomach bug that’s going around, so they moved him back a day?

I just don’t want to watch Odorizzi pitch in an Astros uniform any more.

Is Bielak really any worse than him.

Yes, he was under the weather before his first start in Anaheim.

Altuve looks absolutely lost.

He’s not the only one

He has good company
