I mean, obviously, the Cards had already given up, but he threw strikes, which is not exactly what heād been doing.
Advantage of sending Montero out for the 9th is that now everybody else in the pen should be ready for the Rangers.

I get that. And a second good inning is even better. I just worried what if he walked a couple guys? Gave up a home run? Hindsight and all that.

Yeah, it could have blown up and undone the confidence gained in the 8th. It was a gamble, but it worked.
Reminds me of something I saw - Spike Lee and Rudy T were on the floor of the Garden before a game, 2000 or so, and Spikeās spinning some theory about how if Knicks player X had blocked this shot or made that shot or whatever it was, that would have completely changed the complexion of the series. Rudy let it all sink in for a second and said, Well, he didnāt.
