Astros at Yankees, 6/26

Yes, very disappointing. I was thinking that the offense was coming around, which would make this a dangerous team, but maybe that was an illusion.

We split the series in Yankee Stadium, and we gave one of the two losses away in the 9th. Overall, the starters were great, but the bullpen was mediocre because of walks. The Yankees pitching staff is very good, and the offense is one of the best. There is nothing to be disappointed about, imo. Click needs to tweak the roster, I think, and I am interested to see what he will do. To me, Meyers is a long way from being the solution in CF. Alvarez and Brantley were not factors today, and that is a big hole in the offense.

With the prospect of McCullers and Odorizzi returning, I’m wondering if Click will dangle Urquidy or Garcia plus one of the CFers for an impact arm in the pen.

In the pen??? We have plenty of big arms in the bullpen, imo. We need an impact bat, and you’re trading Urquidy after today?

Correct. If they move a starter, it’s for an impact outfielder or 1b. I’m still not ruling out the possibility that they get a RF and have Tucker slide to CF for the stretch run.

I have no clue which OF/hitters might be available, and I am not benching Yuli either. Like Machete, he is too valuable on defense, imo.

Getting adequate production from CF is far, far easier to obtain in-season than getting adequate production from the corner infield spots.

Bregman appears to be coming on.

They simply have to bet that Yuli will too.

If either Odorizzi or LMJ comes back and is effective that will help the rotation. That’s a sizable if.

They must be really betting on Jake, but so far it is hard to see why.

My impression is that it’s more of a let’s see what we have so we know who to chase via trade.

Yep, I agree with that.

Taking off my GM hat to play HC for which I am equally well qualified.

Do not understand why we inserted JJ into DH role rather than putting Alvarez in the spot. 3 run game with a worn bullpen wasn’t insurmountable lead. I get Maton. I get Martinez. Nothing else to do. But I will never quite understand how a 6’5, 245 pound 25 year old needs to be rested from his strenuous duties of DH’ing in a series against the Yankees.

As for my GM hat, I guess I like Jake’s hair because I have hopes that he will live up to the organization belief.

Astros are clearly competitive with the roster as constructed against the Yankees. That said, wish we were one spot deeper in the batting order - and my love for Canoli Paredes allows me to believe his 0.95 era proves he is now MLB ready.

Okay, back to my full time job as brain surgeon.

If you had read above, you’d know Yordan did not play because of a sore hand. He was NOT resting.
