Astros at Red Sox, 8/30/23

Well - there were two fouls to the guy they walked by mistake, so technically there was “contact”.

But not that terrible

I had to explain why exactly I hate that guy so much. She’s totally onboard now.

Same guy? As the catch? As the HR?

The very same.

We got Verlander back cheaper than when with us. They get a break for a year. Ain’t going to challenge us this year. Our objective is ahead, each game. You never know how a season plays out. As Dusty does in the lineup, and my friend used to say playing risk. Roll the dice m…ther f…r! Wasn’t always a win, but you had to admire passion. Took him to first game at Enron. I came in from NJ. Always opinionated. This is boring, it’s not cricket. Left in 6th. You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink it

I think if you read his posts in the style of a freestyle rap it helps.

It still won’t make sense but you can at least get an aesthetic appreciation for it.

I gave up. I was getting frustrated with myself for not being able to figure them out, and I just decided I would rather expend that energy elsewhere.

Mets gave up a 3-0 lead to the Strangers but came back to win 6-5 in 10 innings

That works.

Stat highlighted on Mets broadcast - not the Rangers - Chapman ERA on back to back appearances… over 7!!!

Yeah, I heard that while I was watching as well. Also heard that last night was his 4th appearance in 5 days.

2023! 2017 and 2022, World Series champs, 2019 and 2021 they lost - the Braves won in 2021 and the Washington won in 2019. 2018, ALDS, the Red Sox won. 2020, Wild Card, but I had a stroke. I’m getting better, though!

So fun watching the meltdown this morning.

In case you were confused, other people in other threads might catch deservedly serious shit, you’re just catching a bit of good-natured razzing

Looks like Bochy is feeling the heat and making a panic move, explaining some of the 3-7 record during the last ten games.

BTW, were you watching the Mets broadcast as well? The timing of that stat was perfect!
Stewart had a pretty good night, enjoyed seeing his teammate gather around 1st base making sure he touched it…

Absolutely I was watching the game (and yes, Met’s broadcast). Crazy good outcome for the Good Guys.

Btw, Bochy’s been managing for almost 30 years. I’m not sure he makes “panic moves”.

Fun to watch, indeed!

Bochy may have been coaching 30 years, but he’s also human.
How many times has his team’s 1st place tenure been in jeopardy by not one, but two teams during August?

ETA: In the excitement over the Met’s win, I forgot Chapman’s roll with Texas, that Will Smith has 22 of the 26 saves for the year compared to Presley only having 29 of the 39 Astros saves - seemingly a much better balance.

I was thinking about this last night. I don’t have the hate and loathing that many of y’all do re: the Rangers. They are basically a non-entity to me. To a small degree, I felt a little sympathy for their fans last night after I saw how this game played out. 130+ days in first place and, just like that, they are in 3rd place. Must be heartbreaking. Coming out of the ASB with the way they were playing in that first week, I thought they were on their way to 110 wins.
