Astros at Marlins, 8/15/2023

Had Soler 0-2, the two just completely non competitive pitches. Then one right on a fucking tee.

End of three…3-0 Marlins

And Soler doesn’t miss those. Motherfucker hit a few in the WS with Atlanta.

I know they sent Brown to the pen with Urquidy back, but why him over Javier? Javier has given up 34 runs in his last 28 innings.

Streaky as bacon.

Yordan with a double off the wall.

Javier is presumably next in line to be skipped. He seriously needs a rest.

Yainer Time!

3-2

Yainer Knock!

I wish I had a nickname for Yainer. Chaotic as it can be, it’s fun watching him hit.

Well, I just learned something about popcorn: you cannot use the spreadable butter with canola oil in place of half of the oil you need. It burns all to hell.

Air-poppers are a good way to go.

Chas HBP then gets picked off to kill the rally.

There was already 21 innings of offense in that one swing, we couldn’t stand any more, I guess.

Thinking about Javier reminds me that almost every player on this roster who played regularly in the majors last year (for the Astros or other teams) has regressed in some way and is less productive due to some combination of inferior on-field performance and unavailability due to injury. Even Dubon and Maton have given back their gains from earlier in the season. The only exceptions I can think of are McCormick, a clear improvement, Meyers, the same albeit in a very limited role, and Tucker, who’s on roughly his same pace from last year.

The odds against that much regression on one roster in one season must be staggering. The Astros have been a historically unlucky team this year. It really is amazing that they are still in contention.

Microwave. I don’t mean the kind in the bag made for the microwave either.

Thinking about Javier I’m reminded he can’t throw a fucking strike.

One of those collapsible silicone ones? Those are nice.

Dubon let’s that throw travel and they get him.

Have one of those, and it works great. But you can do it in any microwave safe bowl.

Another reason he needs some rest and a heavy dose of bullpen sessions with the pitching coaches.
