Astros at Marlins, 8/15/2023

I could be wrong but I thought there was an opt out written into his contract after 2023. He may be tired of losing.

I guess we will know if he puts the Boras cap on at the end of the season.

He never should have put on that cap. It was a big fuck you to his teammates and the city. From that point on his karma was fucked. He got his money but that’s all.

Yeah, having the Yankees looking up at literally everyone else is a real plus. Baltimore leading is the real cherry on top, though. I always bear in mind that it could be the Red Sox. If the Orioles and Rays are the division powers for the next five years that would suit the shit out of me.

The only way the league is better when the Marlins are relevant is because there’s the inevitable dumping of salary/talent as they prepare for another ownership change.

Besides, the Orioles and Marlins are not in the same league so overruled on a technicality.

I’d like to see Miami ownership actually invest in putting a consistent winner on the field, but nothing in their history says they will.

As for the Orioles, the Angelos’ family makes it hard to root for them, despite the Astros’ connection in Mike Elias. Look at the recent saga concerning a team announcer.

I think that was the one thing that didn’t sit right with me with Cole. I would never begrudge someone choosing another team for such a payrise.

I just wanted it noted, I didn’t ask to be drug into this.

Loyalty goes both ways. If more money is available there is nothing saying a team/employer can’t match what you have been offered.

Money isn’t the only thing, and I have turned down more money to stay where I am but I will never be mad at somebody for taking more money. It’s fucking childish to me.

I never said anything about rooting for these teams. I’d rather see the Marlins be good than any of the other teams in the division. Same goes for the O’s.

So addition by subtraction?

I’ll allow it.

Hey, dude. I did not ā€œdrag you in.ā€ I just referred to you as my longtime ongoing debate partner. You are and have been one of my faves.

I also want to O’s to be good. I also root for them to achieve it. What I want does not seem to matter much to the Universe.

The Marlins have won 2 World Series since the Orioles last did 40 years ago. And the Marlins have only been around 31 years.

Ain’t that the truth: As Chas tracks Javier’s throw and gets it back to the IF,

ā€œNellie will hate me if I say this, but when you put the ball in the hands of a pitcher when he’s NOT on the mound, you NEVER know what’s going to happenā€¦ā€ (Paul Severino, Marlins broadcaster, (1:48:00)

A bang, bang play, did Singleton have time to leave the bag for a better shot at catching Dubon’s throw or did he have no chance at all?

The Marlins have never won their division, and the closest they’ve finished is 4 games back. Their best finish is 92-70. In their first 11 seasons they finished above .500 twice. They’ve won two World Series.
Since their inception, only the Yankees, Red Sox and Giants have won more titles.

This play bring an echo of the close call b/t Siri & Tuck

You need to go get your eyes checked.

1.) That wasn’t a bang bang play.
2.) That was an absolutely fucking horrible throw by Dubon.
3.) No, Singleton wasn’t going to have a shot at that ball period.

A lefty first baseman wears his glove on his right hand. Throwing a ball from that close to the far side of the first baseman’s body, when he’s already set on the bag for a throw, he has ZERO chance to get his feet moving the right way to get his glove across his body to make a clean play on that. The only worst place Dubon could’ve thrown that was 25 feet over his head in to the seats.

Editing to add: Dubon was like 25 feet from him, and a throw anywhere but to his throwing hand side and low and it’s an easy out. The fact Singleton got a piece of it is pretty impressive.

Someone should kick Javier right square in the dick for that throw. Not only did he not have a chance at a play, but the throw was nowhere near anyone. Fucking idiocy.

Everyone deserves a kick in the junk for that one. Dubon for the throw, Diaz for not backing it up, Javier for his throw, Bregman for not being at 3B, and Singleton for not being righthanded…

You had me then you lost me…
