Astros at Cubs, 4//25/24

It’s not that any one of those things is unlikely; it’s the unlikelihood of chaining them all together AND not having anything else go wrong.

Well, I think the only positive to this collapse if there is one, is that we can get on with trying to trade pieces like Bregman, Valdez and Tucker…and getting something for them now rather than getting nothing. Problem with that is can Dana Brown win on those deals? Not fair to ask that question I guess because he hasn’t yet made many trades but the doubt is at least there for me. I sure hope they start playing better soon, but it ain’t looking good.

You know, if the worst happens, I will feel some sadness, but it will not be the end of the world for me. My Colt .45s/Astros fandom began in 1962, and there were a lot more down times than up ones. These guys have taken me on an incredible ride the last several years, and I shall forever be grateful I was alive to experience this dominant success. My failure to join in on the lamentations and player-bashing should not be construed as defeatism or disinterest. I am no less a fan than I have ever been. I am still hopeful, but if the run ends, I will be no less a fan then either.

Well put and same. I can get frustrated at times, but I watched just about every game I could for as long as I can remember, and especially after the last eight years that’s not going to stop now.

to me hope springs eternal and it ain’t over until it’s over. Either way my life won’t change but I sure want them to win it all every year. If they don’t, there’s always next year.
Good time to be a Space Cowboys fan though!

I don’t think anybody is talking about losing their fandom. The bitching and moaning is just a cathartic release — a coping mechanism — for a season that’s going far further off the rails than any of us imagined.

For you maybe.

I became a hardcore fan around ‘06. That’s decades less than a lot of y’all, I know—but if all the losing in those early years didn’t dampen my interest back then, back when my attachment to the team was weaker, even another full rebuild wouldn’t dent it this time.

Bring on the pain. It’s my natural state.

I don’t think it’s bitching and moaning to say they’ve played like dogshit or to question why they’re performing so poorly 6 months after being one game from the World Series. That has nothing to do with my loyalty as a fan, which will never waiver.

Of course not. Those are facts.
