Good strategy by Neris to put a runner in scoring position.
Joe Espada will get fired before Jim Crane authorizes a fire sale at the trade deadline.
After today, this is the 15th loss scoring three runs or fewer.
Whenâs the last time they had an off-day on Friday (ignoring All-Star oddness)?
Yes, itâll likely happen in that order.
Itâs incredible, how bad this team is.
4-3 vs the Rangers, 2-1 vs the Blue Jays, 1-16 vs everyone else
The year they went to Monterey.
No issues for me, but we are on a âdevâ version instead of a âstableâ version and weâre due for another update. Iâll try to make some time to install it soon.
Iâm still skeptical Crane authorizes a fire sale at the trade deadline. Firing Espada if they continue to be this bad much longer wonât surprise me, but Iâm not convinced Crane will be willing/ready to sell significant pieces in July or August.
I really thought the two wins against the Rangers were going to be the turning point⌠they have gone 1-8 since then.
Less of a turning point and more of an updraft prior to corkscrewing into terra firma.
This team has much bigger issues than Espada, but something has to happen to light a fire. It wouldnât shock me if he was gone sooner rather than later. Iâm certainly not advocating his firing by any means, but they have to do something.

I donât disagree that they have bigger issues than him. But, the next step is for Crane to shake things up. Firing Espada and/or calling up Loperfido would qualify.
There is no excuse for the pitching staff to regress like this nor the offense to have scored three runs or less in 15 of 19 losses.
Not complaining, just responding.
Espadaâs not been good, but this is largely Craneâs fault. I doubt he sees it that way, though.
I just canât imagine what happened to this team. The roster really isnât much different than last yearâs team and the World Series team of â22.
Calling up Loperfido doesnât do much unless it was coupled with releasing Abreu. The season is basically over from a postseason standpoint. They will have to play like a 100 win team for the rest of the season just to reach 90 wins.
1B doesnât mean shit unless B. Abreu-Pressly-Hader get back on track. Hell, neither does the rotation. I donât think thatâs on either Crane or Espada.

This is the players fault. Jim Crane didnât tell Bryan Abreu, Ryan Pressly and Josh Hader to all be shit this season. Crane isnât the one not consistently scoring runs. Crane isnât the reason so many players are drastically underperforming.
Canât fire the owner.
Canât fire the players.
Iâm not advocating firing Espada either, but managers and coaches are hired to be fired.

The fact the Astros are 7-19 is even more reason to move on from Abreu and see what Loperfido can do against MLB pitching. There is no reason to invest significant resources in a declining 37 year old.
But, firing Joe Espada and Dana Brown is far more likely to be the first major shakeup than a significant trade.
