Chas is not exactly a contact hitter, and he has a funky swing. If Meyers comes back as good as he was before, I would keep him as the starter, keep Siri as the 4th OFer, and trade McCormick. This all depends on how good Meyers is when he returns.
Chas has actually improved considerably this year.
2021: 32.5% K and 4 2/1 K to BB
2022: 24.6% K and 2.8/1 K to BB
That’s one thing that makes him a very attractive 4th OF along with his defense.
He is not a good base stealer though despite good speed.
According to baseball reference he has had 152 opportunities to steal and has 5 and been caught 4 times.
For reference, Siri has had 48 opportunities and has 9 SB and caught 2 times
I do not know what constitutes an opportunity specifically.
Just being on a base.
Presumably with an open base in front of you. I wonder if standing on third and not stealing home counts as an opportunity not taken; that would seem rather harsh.
Which is sort of nonsensical. Most base runners can steal only if they get a sign to go.
I agree it’s down on the list of important information.
Whether it’s the player or the dugout though- Siri clearly steals more bases and is much more successful. In fact I would say he adds value there and Chas loses value. Much more than just even.
