Could get an awkward situation today. The White Sox and Indians play a double header and the White Sox magic number is at 2, so a win in the first game clinches the division but they would then have to play another game.
I don’t think that’s too much of a worry. Players still play, even after they’ve been eliminated. The Angels have played hard this week. There is still a certain amount of pride, and contract money, to play for, especially if it means sticking it to a division rival. The Sox are also fighting for seeding, so I don’t think they’re gonna just roll over from here on out.
However it’s clear that the organization does not place a high an importance on them.
They’ve been chopping their steps the entire season (strict adherence to schedule days off, quick use of 10 day IL, use of relievers, etc).
It’s likely going to work out in some respects. They should win the division. They’ll likely have home field in the divisional round.
As for who will be healthy/full strength for the postseason we’ll just have to wait and see. I do see the logic. It may prove to be wise. It’s just feels like this team will have let 8-10 wins get away from them.
And yes, I am a completely spoiled fan griping that his team isn’t going to win 100+ games again. To that I can only say FTY, FTD, FTRS, FTC, FYB, FYM and Go Astros.
I agree. The Astros are two games back of Tampa Bay in the loss column and have three games at home with them next week. There’s still a chance at having home field advantage throughout the American League playoffs.
