Astros and Altuve agree to extension!

It is a five year deal effective after next year running thru 2029. No word yet on dollars.

EDIT: Per Rome: there is a $15M signing bonus. Altuve paid $30M per for 2025 thru 2027 and $10M per in 2028 and 2029.

I guess Altuve’s going to end up being the greatest Astro ever, health permitting. If you had suggested that ten years ago I would have recommended immediate psychological intervention.

Dear 2014 Chuck,

Guess what?

That Altuve kid is gonna have the second most postseason homeruns in MLB history.

Sincerely,
The Future

Great news! Let’s get at least one of Bregman or Tucker done next!

It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog.

Shows what kind of guy Altuve is. I’m sure he could have made more money elsewhere over the years but he wants to be in Houston. That put him right up there with Biggio and Bagwell in my books. He may very well be the greatest Astro ever.

I like the structure of the deal. Less money on the back end. Last 2 years of the deal the CBT hit is just $13M per, assuming roster resource has their shit together.

Well, I did too, which is why I said “if roster resource has their shit together.” According to them the hit is…

2024 - $29M
2025 - $33M
2026 - $33M
2027 - $33M
2028 - $13M
2029 - $13M

So maybe deferred money and signing bonuses prorate but annual salary doesn’t?

As an Astros’ fan, it’s so wonderful to have the team owned by Jim Crane:
