HH and I have an required order for pre-game beers at the Saucer. Two, same ones, same order.
Roof open, roof closeā¦fuck them guys. Stomp the shit out of āem and pound the olā Budweiser!
The lineups have not yet been announced, but if Dusty holds to form Mancini will get the DH spot this evening. The DH spot has been nearly as empty as the leadoff spot this postseason, but I donāt anticipate that will last, at least I hope it wonāt.
Mancini is due for a breakout game. Heās been sputtering at the plate since he came to the Astros, but heās a good hitter and with a good approach he should start producing again. It would be great if that started this evening.
Good call on McCormick. Hope it continues,
Negative, lineup is identical to last night (with the obvious exception of Framber)
Edit: I missed that Diaz is in LF with Yordan DH, which actually makes more sense for late game flexibility.
I see that. I suppose the DH production will improve. Diaz is a good hitter too, and he will start producing soon. Iām not sure Diaz is a better LF than Yordan, but he can certainly play the position well.
I saw where Stanton might move back to DH for Game 2, but I donāt think the Yankees have actually posted their lineup yet.
Heās not a better left fielder, but it lets you move around your best utility player without burning your DH.
Yordan has become an elite LFer.
Not sure about elite - although he has an elite arm - but certainly better than Diaz.
I am sure. Elite.
From Rolling Stone, Dusty Baker as the Forrest Gump of San Francisco hippie subculture
Thatās awesome. How did I not know that Dusty was an originator of the high five?
"I said, āMan, whoās jamming that right there?ā And it was [Kyle] Tucker! Iām like, āDang, Tuck! Thatās your cut right there?ā He goes, āYeah, man!ā We got some hip dudes in this world.ā
Now I understand the source of his dream lineups a bit betterā¦
He was given the nickname āBrave Eagleā when visiting with members of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe in Montana.
āIām still hanginā with the Cheyenne,ā he says. āThey were just here [in Houston]. They were my guests at the ball game. They gave me some holy water. They gave me some warpaint, some red warpaint that [I] used before the game. And they also gave me some sage to burn just in case. Some real dynamite sage.ā
Sage. Right. Sage. Guess thatās what the kids are calling it now.
I read a Sporting News profile of him in 1970 when he was a AAA prospect. None of this background was known from that article, so this profile causes a reevaluation of his approach. Itās like having Bill Lee or Dock Ellis as a manager possessing a certain temperament

Unfortunately, that turns out to be the case.
Great find. Dusty is one cool cat daddy.
