Aches Pains & Muscle Strains 2023

It depends on what’s torn and to what degree. I had a fully torn supraspinatus and a partially torn bicep tendon that was coupled with calcium build-up in the shoulder girdle. Physical therapy brought me nothing but more pain so I ended up having surgery. I have 100% range of motion now but i don’t hurl a lot of projectiles anymore.

My experience was very similar to Hudson’s – it took a while, and once I had more or less recovered, it took a while more to recover full pain-free range of motion. There is a lot of variability depending on the situation, though. “Moderate” is relative.

Oh, I’m not pain free nor have a full range of motion. My shoulder’s hurt since 1984, and still does. It’s worse when the pitcher walks six guys in an inning in addition to giving up nine hits. But it’s not as bad as it once was.

Think of his poor shoulder.

I once had this conversation between innings:

Pitcher: “maybe we should mix in a few sliders”
Me: “maybe you should mix in a few strikes”

If he’s anything like me, the physical pain is manageable. The hurt pride that comes with those types of innings are the greater threat to existential happiness.

You obviously use your shoulder for more important things than I do – Mine was injured lifting a suitcase into the overhead bin.

I love your comment!

Another one:
A pitcher is getting shelled, and the pitching coach comes out for a conference after numerous line drives.
Pitching coach to C: “ What kind of stuff does he have?”
C: “I do not know. I haven’t caught one yet.”

The real victim.

ESPN article on Strom today included this mound visit anecdote:

Strom: You have to get this guy out fast.
Pitcher: Why?
Strom: Because I have to take a shit.

Pitcher apparently threw a DP ball to end the inning on the next pitch.

I can imagine he added, as the team headed back into the dugout and him to the head: “let’s bat for a while”.

Thanks, all. Just talked to the orthopedist. She said the tear is longitudinal, which is a good thing. We are going to start with light exercises (like the ones in the link @HudsonHawk shared) and moderate exercises of the surrounding larger muscle groups that don’t irritate the injury and let time do it’s thing. Working a cortisone shot in every 180 days as needed.

Good luck. All seriousness aside, I know it can be a painful injury and one that cramps your lifestyle.
