More Diaz play would help
I’m sorry.
To be fair, the spat between him and McHugh still makes me laugh.
I’ll be surprised if the Astros can end the season above .500. When it rains it pours.
The Stockdale Paradox.
I still think they will be over .500 but at this point im against giving up players that could help them in the future for rentals.
I think if you have ANY chance, you go for it but must be smart.
You can’t give up on the season.
I’m not saying make stupid trades that set the organization back, but prospects, even top prospects, are not sure things and these opportunities can end any time.
Assuming you can just take a year off and pick right back up next year is foolish.
Trade value for value if you have a chance, don’t overpay more than you need to for the market. Then deal with the future roster in the off season.
Day in, day out, the Astros put the best defense in the league on the field. Despite its depleted state, the rotation Is one of the league’s very best. They have a Hall of Fame manager and a veteran, savvy and more than competent coaching staff. They have a committed owner and a general manager with a strong track record. There is a core of experienced, talented players, who have demonstrated an ability to win over multiple seasons and who provide excellent leadership. They are supported by second tier of younger players who are improving and contribute on almost a daily basis. The clubhouse culture is second to none. Their roster, top to bottom, is top five in MLB. They are going through a rough stretch now, but every team in every season has one. There are 98 games left. There is no monolith in the league (except maybe Tampa, maybe) that is going to run away with the best record. There is nobody in their division that they shouldn’t be able to handle. They have some talented players available that could bring help at the trade deadline. No reason why they can’t win the division or at a minimum get a wildcard spot.
I think they should play better baseball, get better healthy, and acquire a couple of better players.
They have a manager who will be in the HoF. That is not the same as a HoF manager.
Splitting hairs that fine could cause a fission reaction
Clever, but missing my point. No way Dusty gets to the HoF on the strength of his managing.
You may not like him, but he will go to the Hall exactly on the strength of his managing. That includes much more than in game tactical decisions.
Huh? Look at the top 15 -20 here, how many should not be in the HOF?
If only Joe Espapda were already the manager.
We’d probably have won 2 pennants and a World Series by now.
OK. I surrender. I never went to the stat book, but I saw him routinely get out-managed when he was in charge of the Dodgers, and watching him more regularly now has just confirmed my view that both his lineup selection and his in-game decisions are suboptimal. And while I think a point can be made that anyone could win a bunch of games with a lot of the teams he was given, I also admit that someone who undoubtedly understands what is going on better than I do keeps giving him those teams. I will just watch in bumfuzzlement and hope the Astros keep on winning.
I just asked how he’s not a HOF manager?
I think it’s pretty well established that most everyone on this board has issues with his strategery from time to time.
I generally did not have issues with his managing in the postseason the last couple of seasons. In the regular season, though, I think I disagree with either lineups or in-game strategy about 162 times.
Exactly, he’s been pretty flawless in the postseason.
But the other…
Split squad against the Tribe today. Wouldn’t the roster spot occupied by Kessinger be better filled by a pitcher?
