Hate this but it was kind of obvious. The “going for the second opinion” was major clue.
Suck suck suck
I feel bad for Luis. He was really pitching well in his last few starts.
Whitley wasn’t an option for a callup, he’s taking a couple of days off due to minor muscle soreness somewhere around his shoulder – per McTaggart
Bielak starts Sunday
I’m not sure that we can count on Whitley for anything at this point.
Agreed. Anything from Whitley at this point would be a bonus, not an expectation.
Horrible news. Elbow discomfort is never good news for pitchers.
I wonder what Brown and the brain trust will do with McCullers and Urquidy being question marks.
Muscle soreness; Astro front office code for more severe injury?
Not necessarily, and I doubt it this time. A pitcher’s arm is often sore even when he is healthy. This is Whitley’s first extended use in the rotation in quite some time. A greater concern to me is his ability to pitch through normal soreness.
We get two hitters back, and that will offset the pitching depletion. Looking forward to Whitley pitching at this level whenever that occurs
Two hitters, even hitters the caliber of Jose and Michael do not offset losing 2/5 of your rotation
Correct. I have said for parts of two years now the Astros need more starting pitching. Alas, Brown never called me for advice.
I wonder if Jake has done enough to help in a deal to fetch us a starting pitcher?
Not much Brown could do about it given how late he was hired. I’m interested to see what he can do at the deadline or the coming offseason.
Outfielders for pitchers as the season progresses and we have a better handle on Urquidy and LMJ.
He stood pat just as Crane did. They had more faith in Urquidy and Garcia than I. I do wonder if too early stress on the arms for WBC was a factor.
The group of SP signed after Brown was hired (Jan 26) was not exactly stellar.
I did not study the names at the time, but I remember Eovaldi was available. I wanted to pursue him. Crane stood pat on starters also. Brown could have then and can now seek to trade for starting pitching.
Eovaldi signed a month before Brown was hired. I’m sure Brown is exploring options and will continue to do so.
Can we get 2017 Brad Peacock on the phone, please?
