It’s his top hand, so that finger is getting mashed by the bottom hand when he swings. Probably pretty painful.
JV
Bullshit commentary.
I wonder if the Astros will send JV to the 10-day IL with instructions to make sure that the calf is ok, and then bring Hunter up to see what he’s got. That way he’s up by 9/1 so that they can put him on the postseason roster if they like what they see, while giving JV some time off to make sure he’s rested and healthy for the postseason.
I think I saw some tweets last night that Brown has been scratched from his next AAA start and it wasn’t due to health or injury. I think his call up is about to happen….or least it’s being strongly considered and they scratched him so he’ll be ready to slide right in to the rotation without needing another 4-5 days to recoup from a start.
There’s also the possibility that they’ve decided he’s thrown enough this year. I’ve got no idea how his workload this year compares to previous years. But if he’s way past previous seasons, that would make my earlier suggestion much less likely.
A call up is likely, and I will not be shocked if JV goes to the IL. Watching from afar through Walt’s informative posts, seems to me he has made steady progress.
Brown wasn’t scratched from anything. He pitched last night.
He’s now tossed 106 innings after throwing 100 innings last year. Have no idea of the plans for him but if he’s brought up on Sep. 1 slotting him in the bullpen would be my best guess as to how he would be used. But we’ll see.
I think the scenario was he was scheduled to start but instead pitched in relief.
At least that’s what Astros Twitter was saying.
Twitter had the same reaction to the last couple times he came in as a piggyback starter. He’s been coming out of the pen every other appearance since the ASB at least, maybe beforehand too, can’t remember at the moment. Don’t know why he gets listed as the SP for his piggyback games—maybe the openers aren’t set til closer to game time so they just list him until they’ve decided.
He came out of the pen last time I went, but it was Odorizzi’s start prior to coming back.
Sorry Walt. I was just going by this. If it mislead anyone I apologize. I guess with what happened to JV I was trying to connect dots that weren’t there.
Posting here as well for posterity
Chas back in CF tonight. Mancini in left. JJ DH. Vazquez is catching Framber for the first time.
Also, Javier getting the start tomorrow.
Good re Javier.
McTaggert tweeted a few minutes ago that Maldonado is still dealing with swelling from the HBP Sunday. Won’t start today or tomorrow.
