Aches, Pains and Muscle Strains 2021

I think it’s more likely that pitching is incredibly difficult and maintaining a sub-2 ERA typically isn’t sustainable

Not saying he’s been Mariners Graveman but if you take out the Aug 31st blowup he has a 1.30 ERA with the Astros. 4 of the 7 runs he’s allowed came in that ⅓ of an inning

Saw a note somewhere his walks were up with Houston.

I’m still confident in him and his stuff.

Click’s bullpen revamp doesn’t guarantee anything but it was impressive.

WTF? I will do what?

He gave up two bloops last outing. What can he do when he saws them off?

They need ST and a full year with Strom.

Being a reliever is tough. It can 2 months of lights out for your ERA to recover from 1 nightmare inning

Exactly. Belisle suffered that result because he was prone to at least one bad inning each year. When you only pitch one inning each outing, the one bad inning is a killer on the ERS.

I think the Astros have a plan in mind for Maton and they want him to be the next Pressly.

It will take time and many many bullpen sessions to get him there.

I’m excited to see him in 2022 and 2023, etc.

But he can’t get consistent outs right now. He can’t be on the playoff roster.

Not that the team currently has a bullpen full of guys who CAN get consistent outs.

Even in the postseason (maybe especially in the postseason), there are occasions where somebody has to take one for the team. That may fall to Maton if the situation arises.

I understand what you are saying.

But I surely hope the Astros don’t get to a point where they need to give up on a game in the playoffs.

Of course in the 162 game regular season, but a 5 or 7 game series that requires 3 or 4 wins?

If that happens, the team is in trouble.

And I certainly don’t see them adding a pitcher specifically in case that happens.

Maybe Maton is one of the best 8-9 pitchers for the playoff bullpen.

I don’t think he is now, but those names keep changing every couple of games. And that’s it’s own problem.

Dude, tap the brakes.

Getting blown out in a playoff game is not the end of the world unless you waste your good pitching doing it.

I’m just saying I hope it doesn’t happen and I sure wouldn’t plan for it.

But, yes IF it happens, you save what you can of the bullpen and battle back tomorrow.

I think that if this season has taught us anything, it’s that this team is prone to periods of missing offense that make some blowouts rather likely.

Some playoff games chew up good pitchers and not so good pitchers for both teams. You can still win those.

For instance, the most fantastic game in the history of the World Series, as determined by me.

and by me. Kershaw v Keuchel, a 2-1 pitchers duel for sure.

As the bottom of the 4th started, I said to Mark “I am not mad or angry, but I am so disappointed we are going to go quietly.”

So we are down a pitcher? I assume Graveman is still out.

I count 14 pitchers on the active roster currently
