Is McCormick going to get Pipped by Meyers?
He should get more starts until he proves he shouldn’t.
Meanwhile Chas can spell Brantley and hit for whoever needs it.
McCormick ain’t exactly Wally Pipp. Pipp was a 10-year starter, in today’s world would have been a multiple All Star.
They look like much the same player to me. Both have some pop, Meyers may be a little better hitter, both can run, but Meyers is faster, both swing and miss too much, and both play decent defense. Four good OFers no matter who starts.
Just to put some numbers to Jim’s point, McCormick currently has a 35% K rate in 219 plate appearances. Meyers is at 32% with just 65 plate appearances. I think Meyers has the bigger upside but both players look like they can play at this level. Meyers looks more like an every day player to me than Chaz but the sample size is too small to know for sure. But I feel better about our outfield as whole today than I did at the start of the season. Depending on what happens with Brantley after next season and Leon’s possible move to the infield, an outfield of McCormick, Meyers and Tucker left to right in 2023 looks serviceable for sure…to me anyway.
Edit: I would like to add that the K rate for each player was much better across the minors. Meyers at 21% and Chaz at 16%, so what we are seeing from them now in that regard could simply be trying to adjust to major league pitching. The track record for both seems to indicate they will improve in this area.
Abreu down, Bielak up.
and Robel and Josh James on the taxi squad for Seattle/San Diego.
also, per Dusty, Urquidy could be back for the Padres series
That would be welcome news.
Can Urquidy help with the hot/cold nature of this lineup?
He’ll get a chance to bat so technically yes.
Might explain Greinke’s less-than-stellar results last time out.
Let’s hope so.
Good thing it appears Urquidy is ready to pitch in the Padres’ series.
Urquidy activated and will start Friday.
Paredes activated but expected to he sent back down Friday when Chas activated.
They will definitely need bench help rather than extra arms going to an NL park
Not sure yet who’s suffering from discomfort, but Jose Siri is coming up.
Could be a setback for Chas, thought he was going to be activated this weekend
Have not read anything about him, but Chas did not play yesterday.
What a great, emotional moment for Siri, who has certainly put forth the effort and hours in the minors since he was a teenager. Been a long road for him. I hope he rakes!!
