Aches, Pains and Muscle Strains 2021

The best team money can buy.

I saw he scored on a sac fly.

Didn’t see it but that has to be positive, right?

Baez back on the IL, Abreu up.

Tucker activated, Chas to the IL.

What happened to Baez? Besides the lower velocity?

Shoulder soreness, I think. Same thing. We will wind up cutting him loose, imo. He is not the pitcher we thought we were getting.

Tucker activated, but it’s his scheduled day off:

Jose Altuve-2b
Michael Brantley-rf
Yordan Alvarez-dh
Yuli Gurriel-1b
Carlos Correa-ss
Aledmys Diaz-3b
Jake Meyers-cf
Jason Castro-c
Taylor Jones-lf

RHP Luis Garcia

How did Chas hurt his hand? Two days ago he was “avail to PH” but now is on the IL.

He hurt it during batting practice a few days ago.

If he keeps it up, he’ll go blind.

The Astros owe Baez $5.5M next year, so, at this point, they have to hope that resting from now until he begins offseason work will enable his soreness to subside and fastball velocity to return next season. The odds of that happening are not good, though.

I imagine it’s conditioning related and not a scheduled day off. He’s had 10 of those recently.

Who is the manager of this team?

Yeah, “scheduled day off” made me chuckle. But realistically, it’s Dusty so it’s quite possible.

Touché.

Lots of Twitter noise this morning about Bregman returning today

I’m just waiting for an official announcement.

And, of course, for Dusty to give him the day off, lol.

It’s swing-related:

McCormick, who played defense for two innings Sunday, took some swings in the cage Tuesday and continued to feel pain in his hand, which he hurt while swinging the bat Friday against the Mariners. McCormick said he suffered a similar injury in the Minor Leagues in 2019 and played through it. He says he tends to roll the wrist of his bottom hand when he gets fooled by a pitch or is late on a swing. “It stinks, it’s frustrating, especially because I kind of felt like I was getting some good games under me, getting into some rhythm,” McCormick said. “I wanted to be out there. I know we have 30-something games left. I went in the cage and swung [the bat], and it didn’t feel that great. Now, I have a couple of more days. I’m hoping my hand is 100 percent in four or five days.”

Is it a hamate bone issue with McCormick? Is that what he’s describing?

Regarding Verlander, I have no doubts he wants to return, but if he truly wants to pitch well into his forties then trying to come back this season is a huge unwarranted gamble. Click had already said on his Sunday pregame show a month ago that Verlander went to his doctors and asked could he come back this year. The doctors strongly advised against it.
