Aches and Pains 2024

ESPN and others reporting Urquidy is getting a second opinion today and that another Tommy John surgery is somewhere between “possible” and “likely”, depending on whose tweet you read.

Xrays negative for Tucker. Day to day

Right shin contusion. Could still end up being an IL stint but they’ll see how he looks the next few days

Cabbage up and Kessinger down

Raise your hand if you remember Kessinger was on the roster.

/Espada remains perfectly still

I saw Kessinger in the dugout last night. Otherwise I would not have known.

Fucking shit. Javier having TJ surgery this week.

Absolutely horrible news.

Horrible, but not really “news”. It was a foregone conclusion.

Agreed.

Yes, it was pretty obvious what was coming.

Come on, guys. We should know by now “forearm discomfort” = TJ.

The Javier and LMJ contracts have not gone well.

Early deals for pitchers rarely do unfortunately

Astros officially announced Urquidy’s TJS

Seems like they could have done that a month ago.

Queue the flurry of articles about the Astros teaching/preaching spin and “butchering” pitchers arms.

A couple of years ago, while doing the same things, the Astros were the gold standard of not having pitching injuries. I chalk this up to “hard regression to the mean”

That may actually be true but there are a bunch of teams in that camp if so.

Look at Dodgers, Tampa Bay and Atlanta. All have been said to be at the forefront of pitching analytics and all with numerous injuries to pitchers.

Anybody who says they have pitching injuries figured out is lying or trying to sell you something. Nobody knows how to keep these guys healthy. I honestly don’t think there is a “do this and stay healthy” plan. The human body is just not meant to do what pitchers do.
