“…it’s more so if I put my arm in a weird position or…never mind.”
Why even float the bullshit about sleeping on it wrong?
Do he and his agent think potential free agent suitors are so stupid that they won’t get his medical records?
Or did the team decide that they needed to spin it that way?
Idiotic.
I did not agree to this rule.
I would have thought that help might be available, at least during homestands.
I wonder what sleeping weird looks like? I can see neck and shoulder issues from sleeping. But his elbow swelling is most likely due to his previous issue with elbow bone spurs.
Slumpbuster?
Why?
“It’s a tough balancing act because I need to keep Yordan, as much as possible, off left field,” Espada said.
Yordan plays a competent left field. Is he hurting or something?
Espada is deathly afraid of Yordan getting hurt in the field.
From the Chandler Rome article, the sentence preceding the quote suggests it is fear of getting him injured:
“The thought of Alvarez running, jumping, sliding or injuring himself — for a team still missing Tucker — petrifies Espada. Before the game, the skipper acknowledged, “I need to keep Yordan off of left field as much as possible.””
Thanks, both.
He made a leg-first sliding foul territory grab into the LF wall recently that made me cringe.
I also cringe on more than a few of his slides on the bases, though.
You can’t wrap him in bubble wrap, but I can understand management being nervous about it.
He often seems to slide late and winds up hitting the bag hard. He’s a big guy and there’s a lot of momentum to absorb there; I’m always kind of watching those plays with my hands over my eyes.
Exactly.
Who was the pitcher the team lost back in the day because of a slide on the bases? Willie Hernandez maybe? Can’t remember his name exactly but I recall he had a big upside and never came back the same after.
I understand about wanting to keep Alvarez healthy, but he’s a god athlete and a perfectly fine left fielder. He also hits quite a bit better when he plays in the field. It doesn’t bother me to see him in the field.
Carlos Hernandez.
That one still haunts me. I saw a Hampton trajectory for Carlos (as a lefty) before that injury.
Those 3 starts his rookie year were pretty awesome. I forgot that he started 21 games the next year (and was very average, and spent time on the DL). Then missed a season (rotator cuff surgery), then was out of the league after 9 starts the year after that.
How do his and Bagwell’s careers change if there was a universal DH then?
It’s changed in my mind over the years to like half a season instead of 3 starts. But I remember pre injury he was laughably dominant with swagger.
He got hurt in the 5th? inning of his 3rd start his rookie year.
