A lot of things shouldnā€™t happen in Congress.

Itā€™s funny how bad they are at the one thing that should happen there.

LBJ did some work in that area too.

What? Good things?

Hegseth completely face-planted at his confirmation hearing. Ignoring all of his humongous personal disqualifiers, he is completely unprepared by experience to lead such a vast and vital department.

Thereā€™s a reason why Hegsethā€™s confirmation hearing took place before anyone elseā€™s has been even scheduled: heā€™s the canary in the coal mine. If they can push him through confirmation, they know that the Senate GOP is completely in the bag and everyone else will sail through.

Hereā€™s a number to put in the memory bank: 2.5%.

Thatā€™s the rate of inflation right before Trump takes office.

Jasmine Crockett continues to be what everyone wants all Democrats in Congress to be: a 24/7 callout machine (clip in the link).

Nancy Mace proved she is not a child by having a candy aisle shit-fit and then offering Crockett outside for a fight.

One can dream, right?

Iā€™m not sure face plant is the most accurate description. He had a pretty rough confirmation hearing that got rather heated at times. And even though he repeatedly struggled to answer any number of questions about DOD and its role in the world - e.g. naming any of the member nations of ASEAN and what the organization does - he also had a lot of cover from Republican senators on the committee and for the most part avoided any major gaffes, which is all he really needed to do.

I agree with you, though, that Hegsethā€™s confirmation vote will tell us just how in the bag the Senate is with Trump. Personally, after yesterdayā€™s hearing, Iā€™m not expecting a vigorous show of independence.

Oh for sure the GOP Senators on the committee were fluffing him like crazy. But he showed he has no experience for the job or knowledge of what he is about to get into, and so Mullin et al whatabouted like crazy to make it seem that being a drunk and/or a rapist is normal (which, in the Trump administration, it will be).

I erred when I said that no other confirmation hearings were scheduled (that was last weekā€™s news). Pam Bondi and Marco Rubio were up today, and their hearings were better by dint of there being no talk about rape but, otherwise, it was more of the same: competence and honor taking a backseat to fealty to their Orange Gourd God.

Bondi refused to say that Trump lost the 2020 election and Rubio refused to say ā€œyesā€ as to whether he agreed with the simple premise that the sitting president shouldnā€™t make personal business deals with enemies of the United States.

The Biden administration has succeeded in negotiating a ceasefire in Gaza and a hostage release. In related news, Trump has wrenched his shoulder patting himself on the back.

Noooooooooooo!!!

Weā€™re gonna need more rings.

Hah, heā€™s picked a fight with a group even more irrational than he is. This ought to be fun.

So apparently Rudy Giuliani has settled his defamation case against the two Georgia election workers. It ends with Giuliani getting all his stuff back, including his NYC house, his Mercedes, and his Palm Beach condo. He agrees to never defame them again. So once againā€¦not much of a penalty. Trump and the MAGAts win again.
