A Republic, If You Can Keep It

Something I found funny today is Trump calling for a primary challenger to Chip Roy. Said “Chip Roy is just another ambitious guy, with no talent.”

The reason I found it funny is that Chip Roy seems like a MAGA prick on steroids to me, but he’s rabid about not raising the debt ceiling, which Trump desperately wants raised, now, while Biden is President.

Anyways, they’re already eating their own, of threatening at least, and we all know that Roy will capitulate, as will the Democrats.

If Chip Roy was any bigger of an asshole, he’d be Midland, Tx.

This is just the beginning.

Musk is an Austin Powers villain who’s too clownish even for that franchise.

Government shuts down tonight. Exactly one month before Musk’s inauguration.

You guys are not Saturday Night Live, but you are amusing. You are all too smart to think that that one line item was THE REASON that 1500+ page monster was ditched. A simple, clean CR was all that was needed, but politicians on both sides do live their pork.

Ouch. That’s quite the description of “God’s Country”.

The one line item - being funding for child cancer research - wasn’t the reason why the bill died; it’s just an example of the cruelty that will be inflicted if we let unaccountable, sociopathic billionaires control the purse strings…which we have just voted to do.

There was a clean CR agreed between both parties - in the House and the Senate - and Biden was ready to sign it. Musk blew it up. He spent 20 hours Xitting on the bill, lying about its contents and railing against anyone who would vote for it. Then Trump weighed in with a “harrumph”, and the CR was toast. It wasn’t even brought to the floor for a vote (because it would’ve passed).

The bill that was voted down was a patched together piece of shit that would not have seen the light of day in the Senate and would never in a million years been signed by Biden. The fact that it was House Republicans who defeated it is a bad sign for the incoming Musk-Trump administration.

That’s some serious both-sider bullshit. You act like this is normal.

I can’t take anything from you seriously until I see your explanation of how, as you claim, the 2020 elections under Trump were rigged but the 2024 elections under Biden were free and fair.

And you’re too smart to think that either that article, or any poster, was stating that it was the reason.

We’re going to need some serious shades to avoid being blinded by the gaslighting that will be going on for the next 2 years. With the GOP in control of all elements of the federal government - including the judiciary - they are going to have to turn the brightness up to sunlight levels to hide what they have done.

Especially if - as some GOP House members are suggesting - the elect Elon Musk as Speaker.

A “clean” bill does not require 1500+ pages and does not include funding a lot of unpopular things along with things like cancer research in order to blackmail people to voting for it. The actual CR was less than a dozen pages and could easily have been passed as a separate bill rather than attempting to force continued profligate spending for woke purposes that were repudiated on November 4.

But fine. Everyone is entitled to zis own narrative (and pronouns).

When you write “woke” you are dead to me. I admire your intelligence but loathe your smugness. Bye, Bob, and I appreciate your willingness to help me back in the day.

You know that Republicans control the House…right?

They negotiated the first bill which was killed by Musk and they wrote - unassisted - the second bill which Republicans then voted down.

Also, do you care to define “woke”?

Bob’s smugness is always bubbling under the surface. Among our gang, he’s not alone there either. But choosing to allow the utterance of the W-Word to be a bridge too far, demonstrates an unwilling to tolerate differences in opinions, practices, or beliefs. Which, at heart, I know is not you.

Still waiting to find out how Biden stole the election with Trump as President but was unable to do so when he, himself was President. Absent a coherent argument, I can only conclude he is delusional or dishonest.

There’s a whole lot of shit that I personally am unwilling to abide which is why I have a lot of these motherfuckers on ignore and why in real life I no longer associate with people I formerly did, family included. Difference of opinion my ass.

I draw the line at Trump and his sycophants. I tolerate his faithful in my daily life, but I avoid being around them, which the ignore button allows. Judge me if you like, but I have had enough.

I get it. I do something similar but my line gets redrawn from time to time. I always have to make adjustments. I sometimes, nay, often, use my own mental personal ignore button. I affirm my free will when I choose not let my emotions dictate my feelings or choices. I’m just weird that way and I fail often.

Wow.

Yes. And I am blaming politicians, not democrats.

And as for “woke”, I did not anticipate the need for a trigger warning. But then the need for trigger warnings is a big part of “woke”. I refer broadly to the kinds of obsession with identity politics that sunk the Harris campaign. When we argue about the best approach to fixing our obviously broken healthcare system, we may have wildly different views, but we are at least trying to solve a real problem. When we argue that biological males should compete in women’s sports or shower in the girls lockers, we are “woke”; and perhaps more importantly, we are tying a “woke” boat anchor around our preferred solutions to real problems, allowing the competing positions to win on a misdirection play.

And if anyone wants to consider these issues more objectively, I recommend The Free Press. If not, carry on.

We need a lot more of this!
