A Republic, If You Can Keep It

It’s days like yesterday that have me paying more attention to stuff like this.

One of my oldest friends is selling all of his shit and moving to France with his wife in October. They have had it. We are too old for this shit. I would love to be able to follow suit.

One of my family members that moved from Marin Co. CA to Portugal during T1 is moving home. The attraction of inexpensive post-Christian Europe is indeed romantic and alluring. But, life here in the U.S. has amenities and attractions that can’t be overstated. There’s a reason (multiple, many reasons) that the whole world wants to move here when the U.S. shows even the slightest glimmer of acceptance.

My daughter had a friend from Norway stay with us for a couple weeks this month. She spent a couple of years in Texas as an early teen since her dad is in the hydrocarbon business. She’s horrified at what is going on here. Yet, she said she’d move here in an instant if the “climate” for LGBTQ+ people shifted even just a little.

Medvedev’s response:

Trump should not think that the video archive of his past immoralities is only in the hands of Mossad.

Is that a real response?

Doubt it. Googling the quote only turns up a bunch of social media posts.

I can see that being an issue for someone who grew up in the U.S. As a former-European, I think I have will have fewer problems acclimatizing.

I already understand the metric system - other than Kms for driving - but I would move to a place where a car was not necessary. I make that work for me in Houston of all places, so I think I can make it work pretty much anywhere in Europe.

How toxic is America’s brand these days?

Trump has ordered the firing of Bloomberg.

By the way, Trump posted his scorecard from his big win at Bedminster. His final round…67. He’s hard to beat.

His pathological need to lie about even the smallest dumbest thing will never cease to amaze me

He’s gonna have to lie harder to impress me.

Trump is so obviously and comedically the US version of these ridiculous foreign dictators that it melts my brain that he is not treated as such.

There are of course many wedges in the Trump supporter pie chart but I suspect the largest one is “own the libs”.

It speaks to how successful the messaging has been from the right for the last several decades. Their base will ignore anything.

Frankly I’m sure the left’s base has and will ignore a lot too.

So here’s what gets me - Trump didn’t like the jobs numbers so he fires the BLS lady, total dictatorial behavior, as you point out. The hilarious part of this is that bad jobs numbers will cause bonds to rally which will immediately lower interest rates, which is the very thing he’s been threatening to fire Powell over. Not only is he a delusional liar and a persistent danger, he is a complete fucking imbecile.

And I’ll add what should be obvious, he doesn’t want lower rates because he thinks it will help the nation’s economy, he wants them because he has tons of debt.

I wonder what the real record is for an 80+ year old is a Par 72 Bedminster.

Or Anthony Wiener or Bob Menendez or John Edwards.

Just don’t ask Denny Hastert or Mark Foley or Gym Jordan.

It’s pretty well established that no one knows less about economics than Trump. No one.
